100k downloads. That’s the amount of times Pet Sounds in the Key of D was scooped. A Beach Boys project as Jay Dee would have seen in completed, crafted by the deft hands and mind of Bullion. That may have signaled what was to become his mete-ore-ric rise.
He added to his catalog in 2008 year with a highly anticipated and well received 12″ Get Familiar/Rude Effort, which is still available on iTunes. He’s now got the Young Heartache EP done. 92 BPM

2009 finds Hyperdub marking their fifth anniversary, and the first of many astonishing outings lined up to celebrate the half-decade is delivered by prodigious Bristolian synth wizard Joker, dropping his debut release on the label, backed by the talk-box sleeze of Danish producers 2000F & J Kamata. Yet another in Hyperdub’s series of tunes putting the fun firmly back into synthesizers. Already well known for bombs like ‘Gullybrook Lane’, ‘Hollybrook Park’ and his recent epic ‘Play Doe’ with Rustie, Joker’s ‘Digidesign’ staggers in with a laid back groove and twisted bass synth, but it’s all about the infectious melody in the middle. On the flip, 2000f & J Kamata’s anticipated ‘You Don’t Know What Love Is’ opens up a 1985 vintage can of robofunk R&B earworms that will eat your audio nerves alive! Get it now at Rushhour..

Steven Lopez Launches The After Midnight Series – First Installment Features Erykah Badu!
Respected Los Angeles artist Steven Lopez will begin work on his latest piece in the “After Midnight Series” featuring soul goddess Erykah Badu. The After Midnight Series is a personal excursion for Steven to combine his two passions, music and art. It is this combination that has inspired the After Midnight Series and in the process brought Steven together with such musical greats as Chaka Kahn, Sade Adu, Aretha Franklin, India Arie, Jill Scott and his first inspiration into the After Midnight Series, Erykah Badu. Steven researches each artist’s photo history, discography, and live performances to begin the creative process. Once versed visually and aurally, Steven selects a favorite and many times inspirational song to focus on and begin the painting process. His manner of painting synergistically with music is heavily influenced and constantly nurtured at the world famous Mint Club in Los Angeles where he performs his craft in front of a live jazz audience regularly. Jazz, soul, funk, and hip hop are all ingrained into Steven’s artistic style beginning with his days as a respected graffiti artist and to his current exploits as a contemporary artist with a unique vision. Steven works with many of the top agencies, brands, and record labels including Reebok, Nestle, X Games, Coachella, Vans, the United Way, Global Inheritance, and Spy Optics among others. His art has also been featured on such networks as BBC, The Discovery Channel and FUEL TV among others. Steven is excited and honored to work with Erykah Badu, saying “Erykah is one of my favorite artists of all time and I’ve been looking forward to interpreting her music since I saw her perform in 2005 during the “Sugar Water” tour stop at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles.”The After Midnight Series will include 100 limited edition giclee prints signed by both Steven and Erykah. The signing will take place on March 24th in Badu’s home town of Dallas. They will be available for purchase, Midnight April 15th exclusively through www.aftermidnightsoul.com.
A portion of proceeds will be donated to Badu’s charity organization, Beautiful Love Incorporated Non Profit Development — or B.L.I.N.D. Beautiful Love Inc. was established in 1997 and provides community-driven development for inner-city youth through music, dance, theater and visual arts.
Time lapse video of the actual painting can be found at HERE and for more information check out www.aftermidnightsoul.com!

Jamie Finlay‘s Step Forward was released on Brownswood Bubblers Three by Gilles Peterson so you might have heard from this singer/songwriter/producer/DJ from Manchester. Yesterday Jamie’s latest single was released on Wah Wah 45′s. To be really honest…I’m not a huge fan of the newest track called Don’t Sleep, but I’m sure his upcoming album will be huge. I do however love Jamie’s Show On and I am Love featuring Deborah Jordan. Allthough these tracks are both pretty old I wanted to share them with you to give you a good impression of Jamie. Be on the look-out for his upcoming album “Pocket Science”.

Nicholas Ryan Gant sang as backup vocalist for Bilal Salaam (and vice versa) and was a student in the same HU music department that brought us Muhsinah. Big things are bound to happen for both these DC artists. Check out Nicholas’ Myspace for more music. He did a song with Jesse Boykins III and also a very vocal song with Muhsinah.
The first joint Before The Fall was written by Bilal Salaam and has Nicholas Ryan Gant on the lead and Bilal on the background vocals. Slimkat78 produced it by the way. The second song Mystery was produced by Mabanua. Last, but not least it’s Muhsinah on the production of My Melody and Bilal Salaam on the background vocals again. Enjoy and spread the love!

Finally after his 2004 Soundtrack For Sunrise release, Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker (aka GB) returns with a free EP. Now it might not come close to his last album (not counting that strictly therapeutical Healing Tones crap from last year) but hey it’s free right? It features GB’s interpretations of (in his eyes) dope artists like Little Dragon, Flying Lotus, Muhsinah, Exile, A Race of Angels and yes…The Beach Boys. It’s a nice one to keep us hungry, but we need more of that 2004 flava! I just had to add After All featuring Joy Jones from Soundtrack For Sunrise, because it’s such a great and versatile album. Oh I almost forgot…click HERE for the free EP!
