While outside everything is covered in snow, I thought it’d be nice to shine some light on a warm soulful joint. I’m positive that Dwele needs no introduction, nor does the track he covered here: Dilla’s classic remix of Spacek’s “Eve”. However, I still don’t hear enough people play this tune. Little is known about it, other than that it’s one of many many Dwele tracks that have never officially been released. So just sit back with some hot tea and enjoy!

World renowned sneakerstore Patta from the Netherlands drops a compilation album today entitled “So So Lobi”, which is Surinamese and translates to “nothing but love”. It contains 20 tracks from several of the finest Dutch hip hop artists.
Maikal X a.k.a Shyrock and FS Green teamed up to create the track “Escapade”, which is a bonus track on the album. Shyrock was one of the best MC’s in the nineties and later on in his career, he traded in MC’ing for singing. He was a member of Hollands best selling Reggae group Postmen and especially for the So So Lobi project, X switched his style back and recorded 3 rap verses on FS Green’s production. You can pick up a exclusive So So Lobi copy at the Patta store in Amsterdam and photo credtis go to Patrick Ebu-Mordi and Masta Lee(roy). I can swear I bumped into this new J*DaVeY track “Crawl All Over” earlier via Twitter or something, but I guess I must have been in a hurry or not paying attention at all. Better late than never and thanks to Rappers I Know for picking it up. Otherwise I would’ve forgotten all about this one. On Christmas Day look out for “Boudoir Synema: The Great Mistape Pt. I”. A few weeks ago we met up with Ty and Erik Rico, who performed at ‘Straight Up Jazz’ @ the Bitterzoet in Amsterdam. In this in-depth interview, Ty talks about the hip hop in UK, sheds some light on his upcoming album “A Special Kind of Fool” and tells us how he never wanted UK rappers to ask him for beats. You’d better get you cup of tea, because this is a serious fifteen minute video. Again Joao Costa on camera and edit. Detroit’s been dropping heat lately! Granted this post is a tad bit late, but I couldn’t refrain from posting it anyway since these guys need to be heard. MC’s/producers Quelle Life (out of the Wasted Youth camp) and Denmark Vessey (production for Detroit’s finest including Monica Blaire, D12, Slum Village etc.) met through Wasted Youth member Loose Cannon in 2006. Shortly thereafter the two formed a group called Crown Nation and started rockin’ stages all over Detroit. Last month they blessed us with a few free releases: Quelle’s “Blue Mondays”, Crown Nation’s “Slut Bag Edition” and Awesome in Outer Space’s “Songs About You”.
Upon first listening to Quelle’s “Blue Mondays” I immediately got that feeling I had when I first heard Slum Village’s “Fantastic”. These guys find a unique way of blending an old boombap sound with contemporary hiphop and added a little Detroit twist on top of it. In Search of Stoney Jackson is produced entirely by Madlib, longtime friend of Phil Da Agony and extended Strong Arm Steady family. The album’s conception owes a great deal to World Famous Beat Junkie, J.Rocc, who provided the trio with close to 200 of the Madlib the Beat Konducta’s tracks to choose from. Strong Arm Steady had previously rapped over Madlib productions on the Madlib and Talib Kweli Liberation album, but this full-length marks a long-desired collaboration between the four. It’s a hip-hop jam session, with the group acting as the rhythm section for an all-star cast of guest vocalists such as Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson, Evidence, Chase Infinite, and Phonte of Little Brother. Finally some new soul ish! I remember the new classic soul movement being huge early 2000, but nowadays we sadly have to settle with an occasional album. Luckily I stumbled upon AB‘s new album entitled “Student of My Dream” which is a breath of fresh air. Allthough it contains some songs you may have heard on other projects before, still this one is a definate must to get. Now I’m not going to rant on and on about this Slum Village – “Villa Manifesto” EP, but man that “Nitro” joint is blazin’! It reminds me of some ol’ Wu-Tang type of ish, with a touch of Detroit added to the mix. Hurry up and buy via iTunes!
