dimilite

A few weeks back Dimlite pleasantly surprised me with his set at the Brainfeeder/RBMA gig in Fabric, London. It was the first time I heard Dimlite sing, and as you might hear in Sun-Sized Twinkles Dimlite tweeked his own voice to complete his new psychedelic beat constructions. Though I am usually more into the soul/hiphop/beat minded side of Dimlite, I can honestly say that Dimlite created his own unique style, and this new “Prismic Tops” album might just be my favourite Dimlite release. You can pre-order it now on CD or vinyl via Rush Hour or visit Stones Throw for your digital cravings.

Blen rough

You might gave heard about Africa HiTech on the low or heard some exclusives on Benji B‘s Deviation. I’ve always loved “Too Late” which was on the RBMA “Various Assets” CD and last year Warp released a compilation (2010 from Warp Records) with “Blen” on it. Both were probably the fruit of a remarkable cooperation between Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek at the Red Bull Music Academy 2007 in Toronto….thus forming Africa HiTech. This contemporary mix of Dubstep and Soultronica has people going nuts and of course we’ve been pumping this for a minute. I can easily say this is one of the most anticipated releases coming out this year.

Their first official 12″ is a fact and will be dropping next week on Warp. It contains a “Blen”, plus a remix and a brand new track called “The Sound of Tomorrow”. It’s already available on vinyl at Rush Hour for the early birds with a craving for vinyl instead of worms. Expect their EP to drop soon as well, but in the meantime lets focus on the 12″ and let it take you there.

uphigh-blend-on-point

Eventhough Belgians are a strange species…I like them. We met one of their kind that goes by the name Alex from On-Point last month at Plastic People (Theo Parrish). To my big surprise Alex shot me a message this weekend saying: “If you sleep on this one, you’d better stop blogging”. I was shocked to have received this threat and got ready to pack up my stuff, shut the website down and go find another hobby untill I decided to actually listen to what Alex sent me ;)

I must admit these alien sounds did take some getting used to, but my peoples from UpHigh Collective managed to “Blend” me over. On the flip you can find Title with “Caravan” and in case you need any more info on this double sided 7″…it can be found HERE. If you were wondering where to buy this foreign product…please visit Rush Hour to pre-order. Remember this is a limited release (only 500 copies) and it drops this weekend.
