29-year-old beatsmith Apollo Brown reps the D and comes with a very recognizable style on his latest “The Reset” album. In 2009 he won the Detroit Red Bull Big Tune Championships and competed in the national finals. Apollo then signed as a producer with the Mello Music Group last December.
Up till now he has released the “Skilled Trade” (2007) and the “Make Do” (2009) Beat Tapes. Those made collaborations possible with Detroiters Finale, Danny Brown and Kam Moye aka Supastition. On “The Reset” he gets some help from Rapper Big Pooh, Black Milk, Declaime, Buff 1, MED, Grap Luva, John Robinson, Kenn Starr, Oddisee and Diamond District.
There’s definitely some nineties influences to be heard on this album, like “Lower The Boom” getting into that Wu-Tang vibe or “Ghetto Soul Music”. I suggest you give this one a listen and in case you want to BUY it head on over to ![]()
