I remember working in a record shop in Amsterdam called Dancetracks in ’99 for a short while. One of the records that caught me attention was Zed Bias with “Neighborhood” on Locked On. Back then it was the era of Garage of music which came in many shapes and forms. In the here and now his alias Maddslinky is back during what we can now define as the era of Electronica and Dubstep.
His album “Make a Change” is quite divers and manages to blend many different genres plus it contains one of the best soulful Dubstep tunes made up till now. We were all over “Further Away” featuring Tawiah last year and played it as often as possible. Another banging mix between genres is “Lionheart” where Reggae and Dubstep are blended into one. On “Special” Maddslinky and UK soul singer Omar hit you with a soothing mix of soulful house and broken beats with that typical Zed Bias bass. For the rest this album contains lots of UK Garage, UK Funky and Dubstep flavoured tunes with loads of piano melodies warm Juno synths. Out now on Tru Thoughts and available via so act accordingly!

Jack aka Space Dimension Controller turned 20 earlier this year at the Red Bull Music Academy in London and that’s where we met this leopard-print shirt wearing lad from Belfast. I can’t believe how fast this guy is blowing up and already having several releases out on Clone and R&S Rerords. His latest “Temporary Thrillz” release is a 6-track EP filled with tasty tunes. I never expected this to be so damn good, but when I heard “2EZ (Autopilot’s Lament)” I was immediatly sold.
This guy is on some whole other level and goes from straight mellowed out space funk to a mix of jazz, house and all sorts of other music which I can’t really put my finger on. “Transatlantic Landing Bay” is just ridiculous and will be played as often as possible from my end. Jack freaks the f*ck out on the keys and goes into a funked out frenzy building up to a point of no return. In other words shit is bananas! It might not be your cup of tea, but for open-minded music lovers this is the bizness and I’m getting me a copy over at Rush Hour this week.

I won’t lie…honestly I’ve been waiting for this Slakah The Beatchild EP for weeks and finally got it in the mail today. Could this be one of the top 10 releases of 2010? Rarely have I encountered a 7-track EP that blew me away. Normally you find one or perhaps two good songs on an EP, if that. But “Something Forever” is 100% pure quality. No fillers, no intro + outro…nah just seven wonderful tracks that don’t even sound alike. Please pay attention to this release producers. This is how it should be done! In my opinion Slakah’s putting BBE on the map again. Of course I liked Ty’s album and I loved the fact that they re-released the Electric Wire Hustle album in Europe. But between all the good compilations they’re dropping, I’ve been really missing this fresh new sound out of the BBE camp. Trust me on this…you want to pre-order this one.

It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard from the ever so talented producer FS Green, but he’s back with Full Crate as they are on the verge of dropping Hi-Hat Club Vol. 5 “Eggs And Pancakes”. Six tracks from each producer plus two collaborations as well. The time is finally here for some of those soon to be classics, that have been locked in the vault for way too long, to be released. Cherish gems such as “Troopercat” and “Thursday”, because you might need them either in the club or at home on a rainy day. I’m dying to meet all the guys from Cologne at the official German release party on the 29th and there is also a rumor that there will be a release party in Amsterdam the week after. Brace yourself for another amazing Melting Pot release, because this one is a must cop! Whether your poisson is MP3 or vinyl…we got that fix.

2010 has been a productive year for multi-faceted producer/songwriter Machinedrum. In addition to his critically-acclaimed releases on LuckyMe (Many Faces) and Hotflush (Love Pressure – as Sepalcure with Praveen Sharma), a collaboration with Harlem MC Azealia Banks, as well as a slew of remix work for artists ranging from Ninjasonik, SBTRKT to Jimmy Edgar, Machinedrum now has the pleasure of releasing with Innovative Leisure the upcoming 12-inch EP of “Let It”, from his 2009 album Want To 1 2.
Featuring Brooklyn MC/vocalist Melo-X, “Let It” is being released with a remix from L.A.’s own Edit from the Glitch Mob crew and San Francisco duo Lazer Sword. The EP also features the previously unreleased “Flud” – an original track that once again shows the growth and versatility of the artist who is becoming increasingly recognized as electronic music’s Renaissance man. Street date Nov 2nd, available digitally at Stonesthrow now. Innovative Leisure
