Back in ’09 we posted about Sarah Linhares“Messages From The Future” EP, which has now been upgrated to a full-length album by Public Transit Recordings. Dope productions from Moonstarr, Kenlo Craqnuques and Camplaix, who all come correct with a future blend of raw soul and deep dirty cosmic beats. Buy the album HERE if you like what you hear.

It’s not often that I come across a new jazz artist that really captures me, but 28 year old London based Zara McFarlane definitely is one of them. Recently signed to Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings, Zara is releasing her full length LP “Until Tomorrow” on October 10th. Apart from tracks off the previously self released “Until Tomorrow EP” it includes new original material as well as 2 covers of tracks by the late Harry Whitaker. As said above the album is set to be released on October 10th, but you can pre order it here. For more on Zara McFarlane visit her Facebook page.

UK’s funk heavyweight ARP 101 has just released his latest “U/Groove” EP on Eglo Records and it’s a banger! This EP has a third track on there called “True” that I wanted you to hear. Some straight sick modern funk jams on this baby with those distinctive vocoder melodies. London is putting modern funk on the map with this release fo sho! Make sure you buy this one at your local vinyl spot or order it HERE via Rush Hour.

Canadian rapper/producer Moka Only teams up with Swiss beatmaker Chief. Moka Only and Chief first collaborated in 2008 on the tracks “Do Work” and “Felt before”, and soon after Moka Only released his album “Lowdown Suite 2 – The Box” on Chief’s label Feelin’ music. A good connection and the fact that each artist seemed to get the best out of the other convinced Moka Only and Chief to deepen the collaboration and have this natural flow of united work result in a full-length album. The result is “Crickets”, out November 8 on Feelin’ Music and available as pre-order now!

It was a tough decision, but I decided to post about Mayer Hawthorne‘s new “How Do You Do” album. Yes I understand who this album is for and yes I do understand it’s out on Universal…a major label. What I also know is that this album is not really for me any more. Personally I find this way too poppy, but I do wish Mr. Haircut all the best with conquering the charts. I did however enjoy “Can’t Stop” featuring Snoop, because I never heard Snoop sing like this before. It’s rather funny and yeah I’m enjoying it a bit. Anyway..you can purchase a digital copy over at How Do You Do - Mayer Hawthorne already.

Garnering big buzz before proper release, and played plenty on both Giles Peterson and Benji B’s Radio shows, “Water No Enemy” is a chop of the Fela tune of similar name. Complete with off it’s kilter swinging drums, dreamy synths, and filtered horns, this tune creates an irresistible vibe and bumps warm and lovely on vinyl. On the flip, TBG offers up “Lost And Gone” – a raw downtempo head nodder. To pre-order contact info@conch.co.nz..

I remember the days of Naked Music and Hed Kandi quite well. It was the late nineties and this was what we called US Garage or Deep House at the time. Now Miguel Migs was one of the biggest names back then and just two weeks ago he released a brand new album on O.M. Records. The production might not be something for everybody (a little slick at times), but perhaps the vocalists on this project might just make it worth your while after all. Some straight up quality singers such as Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King, Meshell Ndegeocello, Lisa Shaw, Bebel Gilberto, Aya and Georg Levin are on Miguel Migs’ “Outside The Skyline” album which is available via Outside the Skyline - Miguel Migs. Personally I kinda enjoy this warm, dowtempo sound…slighty reminiscent of cats like Jazzanova.
