On And On 1Ø1
03.05.15

Recently I came across a French label called On And On Records. The independent label was co-founded by 20syl and has it’s roots in Hip-Hop music, but for their latest compilation they delve deep into the Electronic beats scene.

On And On’s mission statement is to develop projects with eclectic and passionate artists. While overseeing the creative direction of the project, 20syl himself carefully handpicked prominent artists from the new international beatmaking scene for their newly released “On And On – 1Ø1” compilation album. The 23-track release introduces a wide range of talented producers such as 20syl, Shash’U (Fool’s Gold), IAMNOBODI (Soulection), Elaquent (HW&W), Phazz, Pomrad, Freddie Joachim (Mellow Orange), Tayreeb and Monk’ (Darker Than Wax).

Buy this release on iTunes or pick up the 4xLP boxset or 2xCD digipack right here in the On And On shop.

To most it is no surprise that the French producer we know as Evil Needle is heavily influenced by nineties Hip-Hop music.

He is known for his crystal-clear, luminous sounds which most praise him highly for. On his latest album, entitled “Reminisce“, he delivers what you’d expect. Titty tight beats, sounding crispy as f*ck. Some might say it’s the usual recipe, but I’m still snacking away on all 11 songs myself at the moment.

I remember Evil Needle telling me he started messing around with making his drums sound live. Over the years it seems he has mastered this quite well as you can hear on tracks such as “Lullaby”. One of the reasons I still love this sound, is because I’m a sucker for downtempo melodic joints that gently brush the ear. “Sunday Morning” is the perfect example and like we say…shit is simply vibin’.

Reminisce marks his 3rd release with HW&W following “Equilibrium” & “Qualia” and only features JSMN on vocals. It’s big, it’s bad and it’s well worth it, so pick up a digital copy right here.

The Netherlands might be considered a small country with few inhabitants, but when it comes to electronic music it’s a breeding ground for young talent.

In January 2015 Moovmnt birthed the project known as ‘Werk Space‘. We were playing with the idea to put together a bunch of different producers on a compilation. However this was not exciting enough, so we decided to work out the idea and approached the Red Bull Studios Amsterdam.

The Red Bull Studios Amsterdam is a state-of-the-art recording and production facility, where renowned and up-and-coming artists, are provided with everything they need in order to celebrate and create music!

Each month we invite a producer from the Netherlands to showcase his artistry and challenges him to work in an amazingly fruitful environment. In addition fellow musicians, vocalists and instrumentalists are invited. By doing so collaborations, that otherwise would have never been initiated, are conceived.

The first three tracks from Singularis, Moods and AJ Beats are now available for free download, so grab the Werk Space EP1 right here! We’ve had help from a few incredible artists, without whom the Werk Space project would have never been possible. Our sincerest thanks go out to:

Joao MB Costa //  Shot & Edit
Serena Indigo //  Cover Artwork
Lexflex81 // Logo Design
Flixor & Edoardo Marin // Mixing & Mastering

Parker Madicine is a producer from Milan who releases his “Layers” EP on Bastard Jazz today. He’s shares our passions for vinyl records and runs a small label called Contemporary Theories (CT-HI).

Parker Madicine fuses Detroit Boogie with Electronic Future Beats while expressing his love for golden age Hip-Hop at the same time. On his Layers EP he declares his love for eighties music with tracks like “Mazimuth” and “Carnival Into Space”. The first was remixed by Vancouver-based producer Mosaic and the latter by Australian Funk lord Inkswel.

In the past Parker released music on Carl Craig’s Planet E imprint, but for his latest work he finds refuge at Brooklyn’s finest, Bastard Jazz. Snatch up a free download of Mosaic’s remix on Bandcamp and order the rest of the EP if you like the way it sounds.

Portugese producer Raez proved his ability to flip soul samples and turn them into laid back Hip-Hop grooves on his submissions for the Roy Ayers Project compilation.

Everything started during his teenage years. He grew up listening to Rap and R&B and it wasn’t for long that he decided to start producing and collaborating with other artists across Portugal. In 2013 the Oporto-based beatsmith released his full-length “Connecting Miles” album on Cosmonostro. Some time has passed and Raez has collaborated with artists from five different continents.

One of the most current collaborations is the track “In This Life” which was remixed by Neguim Beats from Brazil. Pleasure to premiere this dope joint of Raez’s forthcoming “Remixing Miles” on Cosmonostro. April 13th…ya dig?!

01.04.15

I don’t think there is much more to be said about the brotha Evil Needle really. We have been writing about one of the best beatmakers in the game for a very long time and at some point words are no longer necessary.

Evil Needle’s latest track “Past & Present” is the first cut of his forthcoming “Reminisce” project. It’s due to drop April 21th on HW&W and will no doubt be the shiznit!

Meet Mozzdeep everyone. This 17-year-old beatmaker out of Bangalore, India is a huge retro video games fanatic. Especially the music in these retro video games.

He started creating music a year and a half ago under the name Mozzdeep and sees Hudson Mohawke and Rustie as two of his major influences. We hear an interesting fusion of genres and it seems Mozzdeep picks out certain elements in order to create this powerful signature future vibe. Take the track “Harpy” for instance, on which he starts off with some Housey vibe, only to switch it up and get all Hip-Hop on our ass.

Mozzdeep’s track record is not extensive, but he’s released one track with Laruche and another one with Mellow Orange in the past. Get ready for his forthcoming “No Qualms” EP out April 5th on Laruche Records.

19.03.15

Now we at Moovmnt have never been into one genre, so at times you will hear some Trap-inspired music on here. Rest assure that when we introduce you to a guy like Gravez, we do it due to the fact this person has been smashin’ it lately!

We have been keeping an eye on this producer out of Atlanta for a minute and his latest “Sole” EP is on sum next sh*t. For those unaware, Gravez has been signed with HW&W and we are hoping a full album is in the works. Just get a load of the track “Red Lotus” with 16-year-old producer Oshi from London, who has been making equally as much noise. Another fine piece of music is the song “All Yours” featuring another Brit, who goes by the name of OZZIE.

If you ask me the EP contains four dope tracks, so if Gravez ever decides to put these up for sale you will want to cop.

Hello world, meet Medasin. This young producer was born and raised in Dallas and started making beats at the age of thirteen thanks to his older brother.

Over the years he went through many different phases of genres ranging from Trap to EDM to Progressive House. Over the past year he became fascinated with, what Medasin likes to call, the Future Beats movement.

Medasin is heavily representing Film Noir. This collective consists of Oshi, Alexander Lewis, Krs, Blvck Svnd, weirdinside, Masego and many others. Together with the latter, who in our book is an uprising singer and saxophonist, Medasin is working on the release of their “Pink Polo” EP. Our favorite cuts at this point are “Hey Now” and “Technique” (free download), so make sure you grab those and get acquainted.

A wonderful duo that represents and spans across the landmass we call Canada, is Potatohead People. Producers Nick Wisdom and AstroLogical have been at it for years individually, but when Vancouver and Montreal come together, magic seems to just happen.

Their first release came out through Jellyfish Recordings and Bastard Jazz, our favorite label out of Brooklyn, reissued their Kosmichemusik EP later on. Their debut album is a fact now and I think they couldn’t have found a better home for it.

You were all stunned by “Blue Charms” no doubt and trust me when I say “Big Luxury” has a lot more in store for you. It draws influences from Jazz, Disco, 90’s Hip-Hop as well as new electronic music and features an array of guest vocalists. Illa J, Moka Only, Sorceress and Amalia all provide contributions to make it vibe even more. Order Potatohead People’s album right here, right now.
