French producer Astronote made his debut early 2000 in the French underground hip-hop scene. He’s a member of producers band, based in Orléans, The Forty Fivers and has worked with artists such as Mayer Hawthorne, Talib Kweli, Guilty Simpson, Rapper Big Pooh and Bahamadia.
We’ve shared quite some Astronote tunes with you in the past five years. Remember “Weapon Of The Future” from 2011 for instance? Today is a special day though, because we’re lucky to be able to exclusively premiere the bonus track “One” of Astro’s upcoming “Astroblacked” album, which is scheduled to release at the end of the month.
On this new solo project Hip Hop, Soul and Electronica are fused with together to form a more futuristic sound. Astronote invites vocalists like Blu, Illa J (Yancey Boys), Rasheeda Ali, Nick Walker, Mansool and Stacy Epps to help guide you through an aural voyage through space.
TUFO grew up on Jay Dee and Hayao Miyazaki. This duo from Italy is originally from Naples and are releasing their sophomore “Egoistic Coma” EP on Five Easy Pieces June 23. It was made with anime snippets, friends’ vocal samples & analogue equipment over a period of two months. The EP is a collection of their weird, melodically-driven instrumentals and will be available on limited edition cassette (30 copies) to accompany the digital release. Enjoy this interview and guest mix on Sonic Router and tune into Lefto’s show this Sunday for a 20 minute live mix from TUFO! DJ’s such as Gilles Peterson, Kutmah & Lefto have already showed love, so don’t hesitate to show some too.
PromNite‘s “Bae Area” (Act Right) is synth-laced re-funk of Yo Gotti’s song “Act Right”. We listened to the original version and it hurt our ears so bad we had to turn it off. Enough about the original, but man does this L.A. producer PromNite bring that crackin’ Cali vibe to the table.
Earlier this year he released his “Love Songs For What?” album for those interested. Personally I’d love to hear some more Funk-inspired productions from mister PromNite so when that happens we’ll have more on this guy. On another note, this track might just be on the next ‘Future of Funk‘ mix coming to your ears sooner than you think!
Don’t believe everything you read, but Diversa is actually a 91 year old tortoise from the Sea of Tranquility. Don’t you just hate it when underground decides to stay underground by digging themselves in as deep as humanly possible? Or when a major label makes it look like an artist is independent, forcing an imagine onto producers? Well we don’t…we care about the freakin’ music. His latest “Do You” is on that sexy downtempo groove. We suggest you start following young Diversa before he blows the f*ck out of proportion or drowns in muddy water.
Last month I wrote a little something about Sivey (made in Manchester) on Okayfuture, telling the world about a collaboration with Evil Needle (made in France). Well the wait is almost over, because in a few weeks they release their official “Constructive Interference” EP on Soulection. Although the two never met in real life, they worked together on this project for three years. Sivey brings that distinctive UK flava to the table, while Evil Needle adds that warm glow to the downtempo parts. Today the duo shares with you the single, “Constructive Interference” which they are giving away as a free download.
Today I stumbled upon Zachary aka Melo-Zed from London who’s been playing guitar since the tender age of 6. It started with classical guitar, but once he discovered guitar legends like George Benson and Joe Pass he soon switched to playing Jazz. A few years ago Zach got into making beats thanks to influences like J Dilla, FlyLo and AFTA-1. The track “When In Rome” is a great example of young Zachery’s skills and another favorite of mine is “About [her]“. Zach composed a track for a poet called Kojoey Radical which will be released on the Dear Daisy EP in June. In addition to that he will be putting out his acoustic Jazz EP this summer.
I don’t want to come across like an old fart, but it seems like yesterday that Soulection was but a mere dream. I remember talking to Joe frequently and the initial idea was to start a blog. When the radio show took off, so did the label.
Three years and a massive following later, we congratulate Soulection on reaching 100K followers on Soundcloud. To celebrate this fact a free compilation album was put together. Containing a sh*tload of unreleased music from Evil Needle, IAMNOBODI, Atu, Khadisma and many many more.
Yada yada yada, no need to keep boring you with the details. Just get your download on!
Sir AFTA-1 (pronounced love or ▲❍▼❏) has finally returned.
After a well deserved hiatus, Manuel drops U N D E F I N E D on us and what a nice surprise that makes. Get ready to enjoy a blend of previously unreleased instrumental tracks combined with a few vintage favorites. Jams like “Lil Bit of Ice” are best served chilled, while others might prefer them crushed.
We’d like you to meet Neo-Soul/Jazz singer Joanna Borromeo from Calgary. Her album “Kaleidoscope” was nominated in the 2014 Juno Awards for ‘R&B/Soul Recording of the Year’ and her latest collaboration, entitled “Sun Come In“, with Häzel is straight butta! The song starts off with Joanna’s heavenly serenade which quickly turns into a rhodes love story. Some may say they miss balance, but we at Moovmnt have nothing but L O V E for this ode to the sun. Great news, this one is now available for free download!!
