Timeless is finally in a store near you and to celebrate this occasion VTech and Mochilla have come together for an amazing once in a lifetime event. On June 18th, live on stage at the historic Los Angeles Theatre Center, they present Arthur Verocai LIVE! He’s coming all the way from Rio de Janeiro with an all-star 12-piece band, while I’ll be coming all the way from Amsterdam with the homie Marcelo. Hopefully we arrive in L.A. hours before the show, but no matter what I have to see this.
FYI….this event is FREE!! All you have to do is go to www.mochilla.com and follow the instructions. The sign-up page will go live tomorrow night (June 10th) at midnight and will come down on Friday night at the same time. There are only 200 pairs of tickets available so they’re holding lottery drawings. Sign up with a valid email address (one per person) and you could be one of the lucky two hundred. To top it off there will be a very special after-party with surprise guests…
VTech and Mochilla will also be screening the Timeless: Arthur Verocai concert DVD on the 16th and 17th of June at the Independent Downtown Theater, with Arthur making a special Q&A session appearance. Finally Arthur will be on KCRW for a super exclusive “Morning Becomes Eclectic” Live Performance on June 17th from 11:15AM to Noon, so don’t miss that! Tune into 89.9FM in LA or KCRW.COM from the internet to catch the show.

Like we told ya’ll last week, Stüssy and Stones Throw Records are releasing a tribute shirt in memoriam of Dilla. You already know the when and where if you’re a frequent visitor, so here’s something you didn’t know. The shirt was officially licensed by the J Dilla Estate and in case you are in Amsterdam this Saturday, we urge you to drop by ‘Café de Duivel’ for the Stüssy x Dilla Tribute Night. DJ’s FS Green, Turne, SP and Edzon will be spinning the illest of the illest in honor of the late J Dilla. Major props to the guys at Patta for puting this whole thing together by the way.
Even better news is that we get to give away 10 of these shirts for FREE! Unfortunately this contest is for our Dutch visitors only, seeing the winner has to pick up the shirt at the Precinct 5 store personally. To celebrate the release of Tony Allen‘s new album “Secret Agent”, World Circuit Records are very excited to announce the Tony Allen remix project. World Circuit in collaboration with the good folks at SoundCloud and Propellerhead software are offering the opportunity to remix the title track from the album – “Secret Agent” – a majestic slice of hardcore roots Afrobeat featuring a driving groove, penetrating guitar, pulsating horn riffs and stirring vocals. Simply put, one of the greatest drummers of all time is giving you the chance to get creative with his legendary beats.
Some very cool prizes are awaiting the winner and the runner-up, who will be chosen by Tony himself. Full competition details can be found here, but basically this is how it goes:
- Download the stems. By downloading the stems, you agree to be bound by the Terms and Conditions of the competition
- Remix the track
- Upload your music using our Soundcloud dropbox or by email no latter than 7th July, 2009

It’s about time we MOOV’D on up…don’t you think? We’ve had this logo/banner for way too long now and it’s time for a fresh new MOOVMNT logo! Over the past few months we’ve dedicated a lot more of our time, effort and money in providing you with the illest music out there. Now it only seems fair we now ask something in return.
For all graphic designers out there who are down with MOOVMNT…it’s time to show some love! We’re going to have a contest with 1 winner only. All we ask is a fresh logo (sent to us as a vector file) that embodies everything that MOOVMNT stands for. While we eagerly await material from J*DaVeY’s upcoming full-length album, the Los-Angeles based new wave-electro-sex-punk duo are trying their best to tease us mercilessly. This time around, J*DaVey bring the sultry track “Slooow” from their double EP Beauty in Distortion / Land of the Lost, to life through a video that subtly melts into our speakers and our eardrums. Set behind a quivering red and black backdrop that oozes, bends, and spreads across the screen, the video takes us into an abstract dream-like world that lets us see what J*DaVeY’s understated and suggestive bleeps and coos look like in the visual realm.
The video, directed by up and comer Tomas Whitmore, has already premiered at #8 on BET JAMS and is up for MTVU’s The Freshman Contest. J*DaVeY babies can now vote for “Slooow” as many times as they want. If “Slooow” beats out the competitors, the video will be placed in permanent rotation on MTV.
