Any of you wondering what to do with NYE? Well I’ve got an idea where my homies in Frisco are going to be gettin’ down. Opolopo & Amalia are going to be playing at the SOM bar at the legendary Sweater Funk party. Really wish I could be there, but not gonna happen. Good news is that Opo and miss Amalia made a song called “Sweater Funk” especially for the occasion. Even better news is that it’s available as a free download on Opolopo’s Soundcloud page. Get yourself a ticket if you plan on going or just snatch that download!
Opolopo & Amalia – Sweater Funk 2012 (NYE Jam)
Our man Ta-Ku hit us up with a little exclusive for you guys. A few weeks ago he did an instrumental edit of a tune that’s making it’s way through the pop charts at the moment. Unlike that version, Ta-Ku’s version features the vocals of none other than Miles Bonny who compliments the beat nicely and turns it into some “Down To Earth Club Music”.
One of the first exclusive premieres and available as a free download below.
About three weeks ago I emailed Wonderful Noise to see if I could get my hands on a copy of the new Benny Tones album “Chrysalis” which recently released on Evert Waking Hour. For those that never heard of Benny, he’s a Wellington-based producer/DJ/audio engineer and the official sound tech for Electric Wire Hustle. So I decided to hit up RBMA participant Manzana and he patched me through to Benny. Have to say I really love the whole vibe of the album and the Kiwi’s managed to surprise me once more, coming out of nowhere with a stunning release. Can’t go wrong with artists like Mara TK and Joe Dukie (Fat Freddy’s Drop) on your album of course.
Available on iTunes and CD (via Amplifier), but with a hefty price attached to it. Might want to wait a bit for world wide distribution so I can pick it up at Rush Hour. Thanks to Benny for sharing “Nevermind” with us and making it available for FREE download!
It took ages, or so it seemed, but finally all the audio was gathered and we asked JayHats to mix everything down so it sounds just right. No crappy sound, although please keep in mind that the beats you heard live at the battle may sound a bit differently on thes compilation. If you truly want to relive the moment I suggest you play these beats in a residential area, preferably as loud as possible. For those who weren’t at the Beat Battle at the Rooms of Red Bull…ya’ll missed a CLASSIC! Either way we asked all contestants to donate one beat so we could put together this compilation album.
We called it “The Afterthought” because we thought it necessary to look back on what the f*ck happened that night. Since we know a little extra is always welcome, we added some bonus beats from the number 1 (Hayzee), number 2 (StatikMusic) and number 3 (J’83). And of course made available for free download!
Many thanks to all the beat makers for their beats. Johanna from Apple Juice Break for doing the artwork and JayHats for being the coolest motherfucker out there! This whole event was brought to you by ‘A Moovmnt with Nalden’ so don’t forget to thank Mr. Nalden too. After the jump I put this ill picture Arenda de Hoop shot during the battle and you can find the tracklist in there too…hella nice!

Anthony Valadez is complicated. Passionate about everything, motivated by nothing, inspired by some things, moved by the under dogs of the world. As a kid, Ant used to get into trouble doodling action scenes on his school assignments. His 3rd grade teacher (Mrs Brisco, Langdon Elementary School) made him sit on his hands an entire day due to his excessive drum solos on his desk during class. He was once forced to write a thousand words (me) as punishment for his excessive talking during class..
10 years later, he talks mad shit, speaks his mind, plays the drums and doodles now more so than ever.. But at the tender age of 30, Ant.Vala does it with confidence + swagg. Ant.Vala went on to study theatre in college. Writing a modern day adaptation of the greek tragedy of Antigone utilizing 2 turntables + 1 mixer which toured across Los Angeles in 2003. The production (along with Ant.Valadez) was invited to Shanghai China as part of its annual Shanghai Experimental Theatre Festival. Ant.Valadez later went on to dee jay across the globe from London to Argentina dee jaying @ various functions. He held a solid residence at the Temple Bar for 4 years opening for the likes of Nikka Costa, Les Nubians, Ben Harper, Cee-Lo Green, Van Hunt, Meshell Ndegeocello, Eric Roberson, Raphael Saadiq, Doug E Fresh, Sy Smith, Kim Hill, The Pharcyde, Richard Bona, Money Mark, and much more. AntVa also went on to tour with former Interscope Recording Artist RES across the United States as her tour DJ opening for Talib Kweli and Jean Grae.
At the moment he is now on 89.9 KCRW breaking new sounds of soul + beats + jazz + folks + more.
Ant.Va just released this beautifull track entitled GO feat. Wendisue (Vox), John Robinson aka Lil Sci (Vox) Flying Lotus (keys+ drum sequence) Dexter Story (bass) Rebekah (Harp) Shaunte Palmer (Keys) on Junior’s label Recordbreakin.
