Some serious Funk I stumbled on very recently from Edinburgh’s producer Hidden Groove. Trust me when I say this guy got the funk! On his Soundcloud page I found a few 80’s Funk inspired songs such as “We Got The Funk!” and “Breakers Groove”. I thought I’d be a peach and share my find with ya’ll today.
Jairus Mozee aka Jmo from Long Beach California came to my attention when I saw Brandon Coleman talk about him. Soon I came to the discovery he has played guitar for Prince, Lil Wayne, Faith Evans and Cee Lo. He also wrote songs with Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton and Kendrick Lamar. For his own song “Experience” he asked the help of Ricky Harris aka DJ Eazy D*ck from W-Balls. Enjoy some of that free downloadable West Coast Funk!
Has it really almost been 1 1/2 years since we brought you the last Future of Funk mix? So sorry we left you funkless for such a long period of time, but with a new website comes new inspiration. Mr. Speak and I picked up were we left off in 2011 and are happy to present to you: The Future of Funk 3. In case you missed out on previous previous The Future of Funk mixes, get hip and educate yourselves.
We received an email from the First Touch funk duo saying there’s a new song out from them entitled “You Got It Baby”. This bad boy can be found on Yosoy Records’ “The Compilation” which is a collaborative project with street fashion retailer Urban Outfitters and comes in slick packaging. The project also features some serious funk form Soulparlor featuring Stray (still waiting for the audio for that one) and a bunch of other European and US-artists. It’s available on CD and so give this a listen.
Heard this one a while ago, but after hearing this again today we decided Freekwency deserves a proper mention. Melbourne producer Benny Badge revives that lush eighties Funk with a little help of the homey Inkswel on “By My Side”. Watch out for miss Charli James on the vocals, cuz she comes mean on this one! Just a snippet for now, but make sure you pick this up when it drops on ISM Records.

Almost uncanny how Grooveman Spot starts off on his new “Paradox” album, out on Japanese Jazzy Sport, because I always love me some good ol’ downtempo smoothness to start things off. Like he read my mind. After having heard “Groove Me” I was already sold, but as my ears wandered off they heard so much depth and warmth on this album. I can only begin to describe it as a personal journey from Beats to House music all the while flirting with some Funk. Japan is home of a few next level producers of which Grooveman Spot is definitely one! Listen to a preview below and get your copy at right now.

You might have noticed a rapid decrease in posts these past few weeks, but have no fear. We aren’t going anywhere! The bar has just been raised considarably and now we only post finds we think we truly have to share with you guys. Like this new Sure Thing 12″ entitled “Holding You Tight” featuring Dubstep heavyweight Joker on keys. These Bristol boogie boys really know how to get down and honestly this must be one of the nicest Modern Funk jams I’ve heard in a while. The main man behind this one is DJ Die and the vocal contributions come from miss Chloé Lang. Grab a copy of this at your local record shop, cuz you need this filthy Gutterfunk release.
Finally Frisco funkers B. Bravo & Teeko release their long awaited “The Starship Connection” EP on Frite Nite. So much juice on this release that it’s sure to blow out some fuzes. You already heard some of these joints, but “Just Like Magic” featuring miss Amalia is not to be slept on. Peep the entire EP and make sure you support da Funk by heading over to and copping that sh*t!

The homie Buscrates 16-Bit Ensemble has always been a fan of the Funk. We’ve had talks about music a few times and it was no surprise to me that “FunkTropolis” would emerge one day. The EP contains five Modern Funk bangers that will make your ass wiggle fo sho. A must purchase for just $4 if you ask me!
