Night Marks Electric Trio is releasing “Walk Inside Your Dream” of their upcoming debut EP released on U Know Me. The track features Washington-based vocalist AB who most of you might know from his work with Black Milk and Slum Village.

The Polish trio, heavily influenced by jazz, soul and hip-hop, received worldwide recognition after having released their first single “Glorious Tune” with Raashan Ahmad. Rumor has it that Bilal was so impressed by the Trio after having heared Night Marks Electric Trio during the soundcheck, that he requested promoters to bring him to the venue earlier to be able to see their show.

Their EP also will have a heavy hitting remix from IAMNOBODI on there, but more on that later. Radek Drutis, also known for his covers for Madlib, is responsible for the artwork. Digital release will be in late July and a limited run of 500 vinyl copies are scheduled for early September.

Marc Rapson is a man of many dimensions. This talented jazz pianist with a passion for raw hip hop beats spent the last decade quietly building a following amongst those in the know. This new album is for those people.

On “Dark vs Light” Marc blends lucious hip hop beats with a touch of jazz. Vocally he gets a little help from Liz Elensky (on “Love Is All”) and Replife (on “The Rah Rah”). This is exactly the kind of wonderful music we were expecting from a mind that grew up on Ahmad Jamal and A Tribe Called Quest.

Below you’ll find streams of “From Shadows” and “The Kalimba”, but we suggest you listen to the entire Marc Rapson album on the Expansions Collective Bandcamp page and act accordingly!

We told you that new Astronote album was gonna bang! Feast your ears on the brand new “Astroblacked” album wich has “One” on it (which we premiered exclusively last week) as a bonus track.

So many dope tunes to choose from, but since where Illa J fans we had to go for “Crunch Time”. And when it comes to bangin’ instrumentals “FTJFY” is a facemelter fa sho! Amazing fusion of hip hop, reggae, funk and electronic beats with more guest features from Blu, Stacy Epps, Nick Walker, Rasheeda Ali and Mansool.

Don’t be shy…go ahead and drop those nine bucks, cuz I can name 21 good reasons to purchase Astronote’s album!

Evil Needle & Sivey met in an online beat community many years ago and decided to work on an EP together. It took the guys a while, but after years of communication back and forth, the duo finally managed to complete their “Constructive Interference” EP. Though Evil Needle & Sivey never met in real life there is a certain synergy and the outcome is truly wonderul. Two sounds complimenting eachother so nicely…great job fellas!

I’d describe the EP as soulful electronic beats with a dash of broken beats and a twist of garage influences. Any attempt at discribing the sound seems futile, since it’s mostly genre-defying. Just take a good listen for yourself and purchase from the Soulection Bandcamp page if satisfaction is met!

Miss Georgia Anne Muldrow is about to release her first five track Rap EP entitled Ms One. Take a listen to the first single “Personal” of the project which is produced entirely by Danish producer Kriswontwo. Look for this release to drop June 24th on SomeOthaShip Connect.

Production duo Potatohead People (consisting of AstroLogical and Nick Wisdom) are working on their debut album.

It’s coming out on Bastard Jazz somewhere in September and while listening to this new track, I’m getting curious about that album. They’ve been collaborating with Illa J for a while now and decided to drop the track “Never Left” (yes yes it’s a freebie) for the House Shoes ‘Jay Dee sample flip contest’. Illa J comes more than correct on this one, so can you say B A N G E R !?!??

8-time Grammy nominated saxophonist Kenneth Whalum makes his debut onto the New York jazz scene with a distinctive voice of originality. As a composer, arranger, bandleader, and tenor saxophonist, Whalum released his To Those Who Believe album in 2010 with support from Robert Glasper, Chris “Daddy” Dave and Derrick Hodge. After a brief stay at Atlanta’s historic Morehouse College, he transferred to New York City’s prestigious The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, graduating in May 2008.

At the start of 2014 Whalum teamed up with Big K.R.I.T. on his latest single “Away“. A perfect mix between Jazz and Hip Hop with Kris Bowers on keys and Jamire Williams on drums. We’re looking forward to his upcoming Through Hell & High Water album due later this year.

Last month we saw a tweet from Sa-Ra Creative Partners with the message ‘We’re Back!!’

Hopefully Om’Mas Keith, Shafiq Husayn & Taz Arnold will be blessing the world with some brand new music very very soon. Till then we thougth you might enjoy a Slept on Sundays comeback in the form of “Nasty Things“. A long forgotten track that deserves to get some more love.

07.05.14

So what if this would be THESTANDARD from now on? Four young fellas from St. Paul getting together on a project and dropping “Decisions” on the world…just like that. Gotta give it to Psymun, Spooky Black, Bobby Raps and Allan Kingdom for doing something so simple, but doing it so well. This sounds better than most of the music we hear daily. We’re keeping our ears onPsymun in particular who just released his Pink Label album!

06.05.14

Today Billboard announces that Mayer Hawthorne and 14KT together form Jaded Inc. The duo hit up the Dilla estate to get permission to use the J Dilla beat used for their single “Monster” which is exactly what the title suggests. Just imagine how far ahead of his time Dilla was, because in 2014 this still sounds refreshing enough to be on “The Big Knock”. This one’s due to release mid June, but iTunes pre-orders are available now.
