Saw this earlier today, but when Chris from Tensei reminded us about the free Plug Research compilation I listened to all the songs more carefully. Pretty cool freebie in celebration of their 15 year anniversary with music from our buddy Anthony Valadez with Miles Bonny, Hawthorne Headhunters, Sonnymoon, Tensei and Sene. For a free download of this 12-track compilation, just head on over to the Plug Research site

I know some of you’ve been missing our Slept on Sundays a lot. In the future we’ll be trying our best to maintain the focus on providing you with a weekly dose of ‘throwback’ music. Since Moovmnt is celebrating it’s 5th anniversary in December, we must admit to have slept on some tunes over the years . Also some music we couldn’t post about simply because the blog did not exist yet. An example of some incredible music, we weren’t able to post about is Shuya Okino‘s “United Legends” album, which came out in 2006. There are a couple of dope songs on this release, but one of our favs is “What Would I Do Without You?” (produced by Mark de Clive-Lowe) featuring Vikter Duplaix.

For those that bought Robert Glasper‘s “Black Radio” on CD, already knew about that other dope bonus track entitled “Fever” featuring Hindi Zahra. To be honest, we never bought the CD. I got myself a vinyl copy, so I almost missed out on that one. This also needs to be heard, it’s simply too good to just be on somebody’s CD. Of course we urge you to buy the CD, vinyl and hell even the digital version. Buy everything from Glasper is our opinion!
Finally here is Chris Turner‘s first official release “Monk Tape”. If you check out MOOVMNT often enough you should already know Chris Turner from his first release “Liquid Love”, which is still available on . The real Jazz heads might also know he is the lead singer in Jamire Williams supergroup ERIMAJ, and Chris is also part of a soulquarian-esque collective called The Romantic Movement, along with Jesse Boykins III, Melo-X, Mara Hruby and others. Now please spend a few $$ so Chris can use the proceeds to mix and master his upcoming album LOVEchild..

We’ve been spreading the news about Robert Glasper‘s new album for a quite a while now, simply because it’s the best album we’ve heard so far. Now it might not be be for everybody, but I believe the fusion of Jazz music with Soul and Hip Hop is incredible on “Black Radio”. With all these covers from Nirvana to David Bowie you’ll still be amazed how Glasper this album sounds. The experiment is of course Robert Glasper, Chris ‘Daddy’ Dave, Casey Benjamin and Derrick Hodge. Who knows in 20 years we’ll look back on this as another Blue Note classic. Finally “Black Radio” is available worldwide via and other digital music stores. It’s also being released on wax for the vinyl enthousiasts.
“Breathtaking sparkles, glimmering fractions. What melodical madness causes such satisfaction?”
Part two of our monthly “Glimering Fractions” mix is a fact. February’s birthstone is ‘Amethyst, which by Ancient Greeks was believed to protect the wearer against getting drunk. Had to leave out a few songs, so that’s why it came out 10 minutes shorter than expected. Hope you all dig it and if so be so kind to share it. It’s available for download on our Soundcloud page or you can stream it via Mixcloud as well.
With only one more week to go, I know a lot of you can’t wait for the release of Robert Glasper‘s “Black Radio” album. All we can tell you is that it will be one of the best albums coming out this year. Jazz on a whole new level incorperating soul, hip hop and many more styles…all fusing it into one. February 28th is the day and since we’re just 1 week away, we thought we’d give you another taste of that good stuff. This lovely little bonus track entitled “A Love Supreme” should hold you guys over right? Next week we’ll be posting some more Robert Glasper Experiment for sure.
Somehow “Black Radio” is already available through the Dutch iTunes store, but not in the US yet. We wanted you to hear the entire bonus track this time and urge you to buy your own copy next week!
Lawd have mercy. How we sleep on some stuff at times…it’s bananas. My man MRP told me I should check out Glenn Underground‘s album from a few months ago, entitled “Forgotten Art”. Chicago House at it’s finest with heavy Jazz influences. A definite must cop if you’re into this kinda music! Visit Juno to buy this CD.

Last week we brought you part 1 of Robert Glasper Experiment‘s “Move Love” remix contest. Two fresh new remixes from Vlooper and Union caught our attention this week. Oh remember submissions are due Monday in case you still want to enter the contest.
