Baron Retif & Concepcion Perez (BR&CP for short) consists of Benjamin Fain and Robert Pierre Valero. The musical duo has released music on Heavenly Sweetness and Musique Large and now return with their debut Long Player. The title of their new full-length is “Navettes”, which loosely translates to spaceship or shuttle and is the main inspiration for the album: the soundtrack to an imaginary summer cruise on a futuristic space-craft.
If you’re into Hip-Hop with subtle Jazz notes and heavy bass lines, you’re going to like Navettes. The emphasis lies on live drums blended with Fender Rhodes and vintage synths skills. BR&CP ‘s organic recording process (including tape over dubs and a host of live instrumentation) infuses the project with an sense of analogue warmth that previous more sample-heavy work only hinted at.
Enjoy some filtered-funk-infused Disco blends with more reflective downtempo Soul. Largely instrumental, the album features guests such as Benjamin Glibert (Aquaserge) on bass, COEFF spitting rhymes & Napoleon Maddox on vocals.
The main cut for us was “Flexible Funk” and it is our pleasure to premiere this one on our Soundcloud page. Shout out to both BR&CP and Musique Large. Oh please feel free to pre-order Navettes on Bandcamp.
Many consider Kirkis to be a mad genius when it comes to music. Some might go as far as to call him a madman. We don’t know him that well, but I guess we’ll stick to musical genius.
Fresh Selects tried to sign Kirkis early 2010, but he had already promised a record to another label. Instead he attempted to remix a track for Mndsgn, which ended up as a completely new track titled “Cold Crush“. To bring it full circle Mndsgn decided to remix Kirkis’ attempt to a remix (ya’ll still following?).
A few years ago we came across this multi-talented Melbourne musician and with his unique brand of lo-fi, maniacal proto-punk, jazz-funk fusion he managed to grab our attention. When Fresh Selects hit us up about premiering “Cold Crush” it was a no brainer!
And so the 7″ single drops January 21st and can be pre-ordered on the Fresh Selects Bandcamp page. A cold crush indeed, served in two very different styles; with the post-it legend himself, Gangster Doodles, immortalizing both artists for either sides of the sleeve, for Fresh Selects’ first ever 7″ release. Good looking out Kenny and we can’t wait for the next vinyl release!
APSD is the collaboration between Melbourne long time producers Amin Payne and Sean Deans. They both work non stop – as a part of the respected Melbourne music scene – on bridging the gap between Boogie, Beats, Disco and Future House sounds.
Their debut, “Digital Dust“, album will be released tomorrow on Hot Shot Records. It features guest collaborations from Cazeaux O.S.L.O., Miles Bonny, Rikki Gooch, Azteka and Joe Dukie (Fat Freddy’s Drop). We are thrilled to officially premiere APSD’s track “Homegrown”, which we’d like to describe as the perfect remedy for the bleak European winter weather we’re having at the moment.
Meet Boyan, a 23-year-old producer from Sofia, who’s been making quite some noise lately. The Bulgarian beatmaker grew up playing the piano and singing in a choir. In 2009 he went on to obtain a degree in sound engineering and composing music. Fresh from school he started out doing Progressive House and Electro, but a few years ago Hip Hop music came into his life. It changed the way he listened to music and opened up the way for his (in Bulgaria) forward thinking R&B/Hip Hop inspired style.
His first release came out in May on Future Beats Records and featured Atlanta-based vocalist J-Rican. Since then we’ve heard a few serious instrumentals on Boyan’s Soundcloud page and when he told us he had something new coming up we were interested in premiering it.
The idea for the track “Monday Morning” came up on a sunny Monday morning, so it seems fitting to release it on (you guessed it) a Monday Morning. On his latest trip to London, Boyan recorded his sounds from his surroundings using his phone and ended up using these recordings as a soundscape at the beginning and ending of Monday Morning. Might be good to know that this one is a follow up to Boyan’s previously released “Sunday Evening“, which was presented to you by our friends over at INFINIT. Both joints are available for free download, so don’t hesitate and go snatch them up!
One of Amsterdam’s hottest producers goes by the name of Jarreau Vandal. This 24-year-old producer came down to the Red Bull Studios Amsterdam for our 10th edition of Werk Space.
With some help from drummer extraordinair Richard Spaven, the Dutch Soulection representative created the track “Rooftops“. This Werk Space instrumental is available for free download and might get some additional vocals added in the near future.
The artwork was done by a graphic designer from Rotterdam named Lucky Dubz. He started tattooing recently and told us he wanted to tattoo artwork on pig skin for this edition. It’s not often you see cover art tattooed and then photographed now do you? Big shout out, we think it turned out very dope.
Not too long ago we stumbled upon VI out of the city of London and were blown away by the sheer quality of this (seemingly) unknown producer.
VI is a mysterious new project based around the symbol above visualized in the artwork. The artist behind this project is already established in the scene, but wanted to take a step back and focus on his production and writing skills. Together with Grammy award winner Nikki Cislyn and stunning newcomer Poppy Ajudha, VI created an EP where the sound and collective vibe are the focus.
Since we loved the first two singles of the “VI” EP (forthcoming on LadenLife) it was a no brainer when we got the opportunity to premiere the third and final track titled “Odds Of Life“. This song really grows on you due to it’s massive soulful Reggae groove and features miss Nikki Cislyn on vocals. The “VI” EP drops later this month and is now available for pre-order on iTunes.
This Trinidadian vocalist lives in London and is about to release her brand new single “Lagoon”. On the remix duty we find Warren XCLnce, who stunned us a few years back with his mind-blowing song “Examine Me” with Etta Bond. We’ve been a fan ever since, so when we were asked to premiere, we could not decline. Tabanca’s vocals provide a fresh breeze over Warren’s juicy R&B-flavored house remix, which will be available November 6th.
As you might know already, Moglebaum is a band consisting of five musicians out of Germany. It all started with the creative enthusiasm of producer and Jazz pianist Simon Ebener-Holscher, but it was not for long that the remaining four members found their way to the group.
In case you haven’t heard about these guys, take a listen to their “Ozean” EP. This Summer the band performed at the Meadows In The Mountains festival, which took place in the Rhodopes Mountains in Bulgaria. Their latest song “You & Me” (Live In The Shop) is a part of the Gallivant Session. True to it’s name, Moglebaum filmed this new video live in a little village shop in Polkovnik Serafimovo, Bulgaria.
Lizzie Nightingale‘s forthcoming “Dime” EP is a joined release with Rotterdam’s finest Moods. Songwriter and vocalist Nightingale plays his faithful sidekick on lyric and melody duty and the pair flow together quite well we might add.
The two discovered a mutual admiration for each other via Soundcloud and after hearing Moods’ “Love Is Real” on Majestic Casual, Lizzie Nightingale reached out as a fan and the rest history. For the past year they have been crafting soundscapes that have shaped into their own soulful take on alternative contemporary R&B.
As for Moods & Lizzie Nightingale’s Dime EP, it’s a sonic match made in heaven and we are happy to premiere their first single titled “Let It Go” on the site. Moods uplifting yet ethereal beats complement Nightingale’s mellow, soulful tones. We can only tell you to listen for yourself and let the music do the talking. This dynamic duo is definitely worth the ear time and first few downloads are free. Hurry up and get some of this yummy and pre-order if you like what you hear!
The 5-track strong release includes traces of Funk, Deep House and Bass music and can only be described as a natural progression from last year’s “Solid” EP. One of our favorite tracks is the intensely deep, hooky remix of “Busted” by Tartelet/Money $ex representative Glenn Astro, which we happily premiere exclusively on our Soundcloud today. Another amazing track of CLAUDE’s Whoop EP, is “That Jazz“, which was premiered via Boiler Room some time ago and the title track is mean as f*ck!
This EP will come out September 25th and surely cements CLAUDE’s status as one of the freshest producers in modern house music right now. Mastered by edit king DJ Vas and original logo by Emile ‘VECT’ Sacré. Either pre-order this action-packed EP on Bandcamp or iTunes.
