Tender Games
12.05.15

Every now and again we fall in love. And it has come to my attention that at these moment love longs like the new Kartell song grab the attention.

After the success of the previous Sapphire EP, Kartell returns with a brand new cut entitled “All I Have” featuring J-Rican. I recently received a promotional copy of his forthcoming “Tender Games” EP, out on June 1st via Roche Musique, and let me tell you it’s straight fire.

Seems I’m a sucker for these more light-mood R&B type of songs at the moment, but hey I blame falling in love. Grab the first single of the new EP on iTunes and brace yourselves to this sensuous EP.

Not that long ago I came across the name Alex Isley and gave her music a quick listen. Yesterday I re-discovered this creature of pure beauty.

Daughter of Ernie Isley (yes of the Isley Brothers) was destined to be a musical greatness if you ask me. She discovered her passion for performing at an early age and it is no wonder she decided to pursue a career as a musician. Alex Isley majored in Jazz Studies at UCLA and during her college years, she began writing songs, drawing from her own life experiences. She wrote most of what would later become her first self-written and produced debut EP, “The Love/Art Memoirs“, which was released back in 2012. She also collaborated on Brandon Williams’ album and that’s how I rediscovered this pretty songbird.

Her latest song “La Brea” was named after La Brea Ave. (pronounced ‘Luh-BRAY-yuh’) in Los Angeles and was clearly inspired by the lovely ladies of KING. Breathtaking music that will be on Alex’s upcoming “Luxury” project, set to release later this Spring. Purchase the single on iTunes and be amazed…truly!

Last month we were sent a few early cuts from X&G (Xian & Gaszia) with the news that Trapdoor Records was going to release their EP.

Today Thump officially premiered the second track, “Home” featuring Kida, released of their forthcoming “4am” project. It’s a collection of five tracks of which a few were released on Soundcloud last year. Still pretty exciting music for those that haven’t heard their material yet. The American duo seems to blend various styles into one cohesive hot mess that forms their own distinct style.

The full X&G EP will be available April 13th on iTunes, so peep it.

We are not easily impressed and do certainly not jump on any bandwagon. That being said, we give credit where credit is due.

The Snakehips duo from London are in their mid-20’s and they have been blowing up like crazy. Personally I like some of their remixes, but it wasn’t until “I’m Gone” featuring Syd the Kyd (The Internet) came out that they had won me over. This is without a doubt the prime cut on their very recently released “Forever Pt. II” EP.

Another nice song of the EP is “Overtime” featuring Sasha Keable. I like the uptempo R&B vibe, but in all honesty all four tracks on the EP aren’t quite enjoyable. Make sure you purchase your own digital copy on iTunes.

Wander Lost was born from a place of immense frustration. Nick Price had just spent six months in his newly adopted home, Los Angeles, and things weren’t happening the way he had planned. His work as a songwriter was suffering and as he tried to write in different idioms and for different voices, he strayed further from the obvious path. Which was to write for nobody else but Nick Price. At some point the levy broke and the scale tipped. Two days later his debut single “Naked Souls” was written. Upon first hearing it, I thought to myself this is something else. No dime a dozen track. No this was something truly magnificent. Of course the rest is history and now we find Nick Price on the verge of the release of his Wander Lost EP.

Let me do a quick review since the EP only contains six songs. The intro entitled, “Lunar Precipice“, is a heavenly harmony that sweeps you off your feet right away. Now what else can I say about “Naked Souls“? It’s undeniably one of the best Soul songs I’ve heard last year. Still listen to it on a regular basis and I’m shocked it recently passed 136,000 plays. Nick’s second single, “Cabin Built For Two“, finds him back on the romantic tip.
The most beautiful song on Wander Lost (for me) is “Cold“. What a personal and emotional ride…wow! It doesn’t shame me to admit this brought me to tears at least once (such an emotional sap). I almost broke the replay button on this one. Okay whipe your tears, for the vocal interlude, “Ain’t Got Nobody“, provides a quick moment of cheerfulness. Wait with lyrics like ‘I’m so sad and lonely’? I’m confused. Ah finally Nick treats us to some crisp drums, uplifting rhodes and soothing sax on the last cut called “Running Back”.

Thanks goes out to several key contributors. Andris Mattson and Max Byrk, producers and instrumentalists from the band Moonchild, helped shaping the sound of this EP. Another important contributor was Charlotte Ficek who made some incredible and inspiring artwork. Wander Lost is available on iTunes and please show Nick some love and support…he deserves it!

Great news everyone! Nick Price is finally about to release his debut EP entitled “Wander Lost“.

Born in Toronto and groomed in LA, he endeavors to bring together the worlds of Jazz, R&B, and Soul under the same roof. Nick Price has spent the better part of his musical career thus far learning and trying to write music for someone else. Not one person in particular, but someone who isn’t Nick Price.

The turning point was when he wrote his debut song “Naked Souls” in just two days and it was immaculately beautiful. I’m so happy we picked up on Nick early and were able to premiere this amazing song. In under ten months this song was played almost 135,000 times, which is mind-blowing.

Feast your ears on this exclusive stream of another song of the Wander Lost EP, entitled “Running Back”. Pre-orders are available on iTunes and with every pre-order you automatically get a download of Naked Souls!

What is it about Canada? For some strange reason a lot of the new talents have been coming out of Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver lately. Perhaps it’s simply Canada’s time to shine?!

One of these up-and-coming young artists is a JAHKOY. This artist slash songwriter, hailing from Toronto, has been making quite some noise lately…the good kind. Quite recently he visited Jazzy Jeff’s studio and already he has producers like M-Phazes, Kaytranada, Galimatias, Moods, Pomo, Chloe Martini and DrewsThatDude producing tracks for him. JAHKOY is on some proper next level ‘Future’ R&B type of vibe and my personal favorite is the track “Trading Places” produced by Galimatias.

You can also find “Heart Smile” produced by Pomo on the “Sound of The Tribe” compilation released by The Good Vibe. Oh in case you were wondering, “Forward Thinking” (which contains all these tracks) is available for free download right here!

Kadhja Bonet (Kad-yah Bo-nay) from Los Angeles is one of our favorite recently discovered singer-songwriter figures. Her debut single “Tears For Lamont” starts off with powerful orchestration (strings, horns and some flute) and almost sounds like something out of a James Bond movie. Her angelic voice and songwriting skills are simply unreal.

In October 2014 Kadhja was a participant at the Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo. All of their hard work in the studio was captured and is now available for free download on the Various Assets compilation. Together with German producer rj and Mark Maxwell (aka Estii / Yale) from Australia, Kadhja made a heart-stopping song called “Latenight Munchies”.

Since we were dying to know more about Kadhja Bonet, we figured we’d ask her some questions in an effort to get to know her a little better. Please enjoy this interview and find out more about Kadhja for yourself.

Usually an intermission is a recess between parts of a performance, but in Beldina‘s case the “Intermission” EP is a break into her next chapter.

The foxy fly singer from Stockholm, now residing in Los Angeles, may look like a vixen but she sings like an angel. Yesterday she celebrated the release of her EP on Kiss Kiss Records. This beautiful creature called in the help of Bay Area/LA funkster B. Bravo and asked him to concoct a breezy tropical remix for her track called “Ocean“. We are very happy to announce it’s available for free download and Beldina’s EP is now available on iTunes.

24-year-old Emmavie is a singer from the city of London, who had worked with Alfa Mist on their previous “Epoch” EP.

For this reason I never would have guessed Emmavie produces herself as well. And with great skill I might add. Just take a listen to “I Hope We Never Break Up” featuring Ego Ella May. The track was premiered over at our Soulbounce fam (go butta) and is fingerlickin’ soul drippin’. The two work really well together vocally and I love those harmonies.

Now Emmavie has a show in London on February 8th, where she will be performing this and other material she’s been working on. Get your tickets here and make sure you follow both Emmavie and Ego Ella May on Soundcloud!
