Glenn Astro currently resides in Essen and has spent half his life producing and DJ’ing. He started out with Hip-Hop and later got into ultra soulful House music.

Hard to believe his first release came out in 2011 and in such a short timespan Glenn has gotten so damn good. His signature sound is where Hip-Hop says farewell to House music, like two lovers who have just taken a hot bath together and now part ways. The 26-year-old German producer has mastered the gritty low-end so well and all of the EP’s he has been releasing the past year have been freakin’ brilliant.

Glenn Astro’s returns with another gang of grooves. His warm, soul-infused “Hologram” EP is  is forthcoming on WotNot Music and is set to be released on vinyl March 23rd and digitally early April. None other than Henry Wu (22a) was called in for help to remix “Love Is Gone”, which he does with a delightful, jazz-instilled flip. Since we have been following both closely for a while, we are stoked to exclusively premiere this particular track of the Hologram EP.

Drop by OYE Records on March 21st for an instore promotional session with Glenn Astro, Henry Wu, K15 and IMYRMIND. It goes without saying that you need to pick up this release seeing “User’s Guide To” and “Gemini” with IMYRMIND are brilliant as well. For those that love warm, jazzy, soulful vibes this release is essential! Check out this super limited pre-order (only 20 vinyl copies) link and act fast.

Taken from Gilles Peterson’s new album project Sonzeira, the track “Brasil Pandeiro” is a rework of the original 1940’s track written by Assis Valente. On vocals it features Emanuelle Araύjo, who you did an awesome rendition of “Southern Freeez”. Also featuring is one of the most prolific musicians on the Brazilian samba scene, Arlindo Cruz, who plays the Cavaquinho (small guitar).

Our favorite House cat, the incredible Max Graef, did an amazing remix of this Samba joint. You won’t recognize the original for Max’s take on this classic is crispy, fresh and freakin’ good. The Brasil Bam Bam Bass was curated with love and contains more remakes and outtakes from FaltyDL, Kyodai and Mark E to name a few.

Gilles will be playing back to back with DJ Nuts on Thursday 15th May at ‘Club Bam Bam Bam’. Pre-orders of Sonzeira’s Brasil Bam Bam Bass (the out takes and remakes) are available on iTunes and the official release is this Monday via Brownswood Recordings.

We are not easily impressed and do certainly not jump on any bandwagon. That being said, we give credit where credit is due.

The Snakehips duo from London are in their mid-20’s and they have been blowing up like crazy. Personally I like some of their remixes, but it wasn’t until “I’m Gone” featuring Syd the Kyd (The Internet) came out that they had won me over. This is without a doubt the prime cut on their very recently released “Forever Pt. II” EP.

Another nice song of the EP is “Overtime” featuring Sasha Keable. I like the uptempo R&B vibe, but in all honesty all four tracks on the EP aren’t quite enjoyable. Make sure you purchase your own digital copy on iTunes.

We would like to introduce you to Prince IsaAc. This young Parisian producer likes to chill and take late night rides through the city.

He started messing around in FL Studio in 2014 and the music he makes has been influenced by many different styles of music. Prince IsaAc released his “Blues On The Corner” mini EP as a free project on LaRuche Records last month. The second release from the producer, who wishes to remain unknown for the time being, is self released and contains an incredible track called “Callie”. Hurry up to snatch a free download, because it will be available for a limited amount of days only. Come Monday you will have to purchase the EP, but don’t worry it will be worth it and affordable.

Callie seems to be a very special girl for whom the prince has a very special place reserved. She might be the one that got away so to speak. Cover art was designed by Hidenori Koga.

A young lady that has been on our radar for quite some time is Chloe Martini out of Poland. Her look on electronic music is fresh and she has skills in abundance.

She was born in Warsaw and in her teenage years, she began composing instrumental piano pieces. It wasn’t much later that she started to develop an interest in electronic music and started experimenting with different textures that now form the basis of her signature sound.

Yesterday she release her “Private Joy” EP on Roche Musique and it has this one killer Funk song featuring Azteka, that you need to hear. Last year Chloe Martini was hanging out with her brother from another mother Trian Kayhatu, when he played her Private Joy by Prince. She was so inspired that she got into that eighties sound and got inspired by cats like Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

All four tracks can be purchased on iTunes, so get it while it’s hot and creamy!

Jay Prince’s new joint “Good Right Now” is the first thing to drop after his recently released “BeFor Our Time” EP.

It’s always great to see vocalists work with up-and-coming producers and in this case we’ve been a fan of both Gravez and DrewsThatDude for a minute. Just love the sensual laidback feel of Good Right Now and rest assure you are gonna vibe to this for days. Additional vocals by Raheaven who was also responsible for the vocals on Polaroids.

If you haven’t downloaded the EP yet, go ahead and do so on Jay Prince’s Bandcamp page. You can also catch him perform live at Red Gallery in London on March 12th. Tickets are available here.

Woodwire from Lyon, Paris is about to release a brand new project called “Oddyssea” on Cosmonostro.

The journey might be described best as a mix between traveling and odd things. After his previous more trip-hop oriented project, some cinematic ideas developed in the process. These ideas where concretized with the first song “Ignite” and resulted from a single night of work after Woodwire returned from hours of listening to vinyl at a friend house.

The song “L’Etage” was created during the weekend behind a desk from a more producer perspective, compared to the four others songs. The 24-year-old fellow Lyonnaise producer Oxidia did a very nice rework of this song adding a little umph to the original. When we were asked if we wanted to premiere this bonus track, it only took us a few seconds to say yes.

If you like you can pre-order Oddyssea on the Cosmonostro Bandcamp page.

A wonderful duo that represents and spans across the landmass we call Canada, is Potatohead People. Producers Nick Wisdom and AstroLogical have been at it for years individually, but when Vancouver and Montreal come together, magic seems to just happen.

Their first release came out through Jellyfish Recordings and Bastard Jazz, our favorite label out of Brooklyn, reissued their Kosmichemusik EP later on. Their debut album is a fact now and I think they couldn’t have found a better home for it.

You were all stunned by “Blue Charms” no doubt and trust me when I say “Big Luxury” has a lot more in store for you. It draws influences from Jazz, Disco, 90’s Hip-Hop as well as new electronic music and features an array of guest vocalists. Illa J, Moka Only, Sorceress and Amalia all provide contributions to make it vibe even more. Order Potatohead People’s album right here, right now.

Choose Your Weapon

We were one of the earliest adopters when it comes to Hiatus Kaiyote and proud of it. Back in 2012 it was immediately clear the band was something else. Not your average run of the mill type of hype at all.

The Melbourne-based Hiatus Kaiyote was picked up by a lot of music lovers in Los Angeles and they landed on the cover of Wax Poetics. Anything Nai Palm touches makes my soul quiver and I am smitten with her voice. The soul quartet have a new song online entitled “Breathing Underwater” and I can’t even begin to explain how happy this makes me. The single is an homage to the different examples of love and compassion in the world that are beyond the limitation of romance.

Their forthcoming album “Choose Your Weapon” might be our most highly anticipated release this year and is scheduled to drop on May 5th via Flying Buddha/Sony Music Masterworks. Buy this stunning song on iTunes!

The funky duo, Tuxedo, exists of Mayer Hawthorne (Aquarius) and Jake One (Taurus), who have both been nominated for a Grammy. We’ve been a fan of both individual artists for many years, but together they form Voltron.

The Tuxedo collaboration began with an exchange of mixtapes back in 2006 and you can just hear both know their Boogie and Funk oh so well. Three tracks were mysteriously released on Internet as a free download nearly two years ago. We’ve been playing their music ever since and have introduced many DJ’s to it as well. In fact I know their music is an anthem at some of those parties now.

In between personal projects, these three tracks became a full album’s worth of Tuxedo. Original disco legend John Morales mixed the entire project at his home studio so you know why it sounds incredible. The music sounds true to the eighties, yet fresh as f*ck. What an amazing debut album released on Stones Throw Records with many future favorites to bounce to. Get your double vinyl or CD copy at the Stones Throw shop or visit iTunes to purchase get some digital Funk.
