Seems like almost yesterday, but in fact it was 5 years ago the first compilation came out. Once again they’re back with “Brownswood Bubblers Seven” this time which will be out on the 26th. Lots of music from Jon Phonics, KING, Chris Turner, Jesse Boykins, Tall Black Guy, The Park and Ntjam Rosie so keep an eye out for this one.

The first unofficial leak of the highly anticipated album “Cosmogramma” is a fact. Gilles Peterson premiered Flying Lotus‘s “Computer Face/Pure Being” on his radioshow recently and here you have a it…a sneak peak. The album is due May 4th on Warp and I hope it’s not going to be too wonky or experimental, because we kinda miss the ‘old’ FlyLo sometimes.

Is it number five already? Damn how time seems to fly by. Gilles Peterson presents “Brownswood Bubblers Five” and again surprises us with a compilation full of nice music ranging from Soultronica to Hip Hop and from Jazz to Nu-Soul music. In case you’re not down with the whole Bubblers vibe – it goes a little something like this…
“Brownswood Bubblers provides a platform for unsung heroes and emerging talent from the Worldwide underground. The series distils the stream of exciting new artists that have become semi-permanent fixtures in Gilles’ playlists and DJ sets of late to create a suite of perfect bumps.”
Volume Five drops with March 8th and is full of great music, but what else did you expect? Some of this wonderful music has already been out for some time, while a few gems are highly exclusive and were unreleased up till now. Check out some profiles on their website. So far they’ve featured Ron Basejam, Electric Wire Hustle, Shuanise and Daru & Rena. Already this album is exclusively available through the Brownswood Recordings store, so act fast. FunkinEven 1956 is the latest artist to join the ranks of Eglo records (Floating Points / Alexander Nut). Featuring the incredible vocal talent of Swedish born/Hackney bred artist Fatima (who some of you will recognize through collaborations with SA-RA’s Shafiq Husayn and Stones Throws Dam-Funk) Kleer is the title track taken from the forthcoming 4 track EP, which showcases Funkineven’s individual futuristic soul bounce. Being his debut release we felt it only right to go all out and press the vinyl up on clear wax, so hold tight for the finished product. Having already been heavily supported in it’s demo form by 1Xtra’s Benji B, the track is now finished, mastered and ready to take on the globe!
West Londoner FunkinEven creates sounds that inhabit a similar atmosphere to The Neptunes, Model 500 and Bugz In The Attic just as much as they do Cameo, NPG and Zapp. Take a listen and invent your own labels… we just know that everytime it’s been performed live it has most definitely “blown up tha spot!”. The full EP will also feature two B side tacks ‘Mad Swing’ and ‘You’, which where previously available as rough versions on the net but have now been finished, polished and mastered for your bumping enjoyment.
