andreya-lost

Andreya Triana finally drops her long awaited debut album entitled “Lost Where I Belong”. We’ve already kept you up to date about her past few singles, but the time has finally come. A very mature album if I may say so, but I expected nothing less with productions by Bonobo. Pre-order the album HERE via Ninje Tune and enjoy the wondrously beautiful “Up In Fire”.

notes-for-haiti

I’m sure we all haven’t forgotten about what happened in Haiti in January. With the “Notes For Haiti” compilation album, Detroit and L.A. join unite and come together on one album to show love and support. Most songs you might already know, but still well worth the support! Check the official press release…

Moved by the catastrophic earthquake and aftershocks that ravaged the island nation of Haiti, a group of artists is asking the public to remember the difference each of us can make. The project, “Notes for Haiti”, is a way for the collective to thank the public for their support of the island nation to date – and hopefully inspire folks to give more of the help that’s that still needed.
Estimates are that beyond the more than 230,000 Haitians who lost their lives as a result of the earthquakes, another 300,000 were injured and over one million were left homeless.
The album is available digitally in a “pay-what-you-want” format as of Tuesday, June 1, 2010 through the website notesforhaiti.bandcamp.com. All proceeds from album sales and donations are funneled directly to Oxfam America’s ongoing Haiti relief efforts.
The compilation features exclusive content and album material from Karriem Riggins, eLZhi (Slum Village), Blu, Fashawn, Exile, Aloe Blacc, Crown Royale (Buff 1 and DJ Rhettmatic), Invincible, Now On (Mayer Hawthorne, IX Lives, Jackson Perry), 14KT, Houseshoes, Co$$, Sene, AB, Marv Won, Jordan Rockswell, and SlopFunkDust.
The concept behind the “pay-what-you-want” format (used previously by bands such as Radiohead) is that the user can dictate the price paid for the album as a whole, or for each song purchased individually (for as little as $1). The donations are processed directly to Oxfam America through the secure BandCamp-PayPal portal, removing unnecessary overhead or infrastructure costs at the point of sale.
Oxfam is working in multiple locations to provide clean water, sanitation, shelter, seeds and running cash for work programs. Though their public appeal to Haiti has closed (for the time), this project will continue to affect their ongoing efforts on the island.
Detroit natives Niles Heron (Los Angeles) and Sarah Lockridge-Steckel (Boston) executive produced the album with gracious contributions from artists, promoters, managers, and good people nationwide.

Please visit the Notes For Haiti Bandcamp page and give generously! I just donated $5 and I truly hope that you, you and yes you have a heart as well and dig deep into your pockets. We’re only streaming these two bangers at a low bitrate, cuz for only $1 you can BUY the entire album.

grooveman-spot-affection

A while back I got my hands on the new Grooveman Spot album and one of the first tracks that caught my attention was “Affection” featuring Ahu. She was so kind to inform me that the “Change Situations” single had just gone online for sale. Check out the flipside with my man Erik Rico, cuz he makes it funky! The full album is going to drop in a few on Planetgroove. Get that digital dope via grooveman Spot - Change Situations

Much like her debut album, Moments of Clarity, Wayna‘s newest release, Higher Ground, displays a level of artistry that’s rarely found among the plethora of singers presently occupying the musical landscape.

Over Ground‘s 13 songs, the Ethiopian-born, D.C. area-raised Wayna manages to accomplish the often unmanageable task of coupling meaningful, decipherable lyrics with well produced and compelling tracks. Although not representative of the album’s overall subject matter, “Billie Club” captures this sentiment perfectly. With vocal and production assistance from Three Stars alumna Muhsinah.

One of the great things about Wayna is that while she can have a track like “Billie Club” on her album, with all of its potential explosiveness, she can also have “Mr. Duracell”, which is less about batteries and more about a device in which said brand could be used to power. She recognizes that as humans, we go through a range of emotions and, as a result, can’t stay in one feelings box for all times. Artists who understand this and have the tact to convey it in a way where their audience can relate it to their everyday lives will always have supporters. Wayna has done this, and with the help of a talented group of  (local)producers(Kev Brown on “Not Gonna Go), has put out a noteworthy sophomore effort that deserves to be heard by all who consider themselves musically literate and love music by artists who strive to make a connection to their listeners that is more than superficial.full@WJacarlMelton

Next week Dwele‘s new disc Sketches of a Man hits the streets, and in anticipation of this joyous occasion he’s taking us behind the scenes and giving us a taste of what we can expect on the CD. This EPK features Dwele chatting about his artistry, sharing what is different about Sketches compared to his previous releases (more hip hop!), winning a push up competition (against a female…SIDE-EYE!), clowning around and discussing his collabos with Common and Kanye West on their last albums. Selected sounds from Sketches of a Man can be heard playing as background music throughout the vid and stick around until the end to hear Dwele tickle the ivories and sing a little something.butta@ www.soulbounce.com

Detroit’s Invincible, one of the best MC’s you’ve been ignoring just dropped her debut album Shapeshifters.

The album, which is available directly from Invincible’s own independent website and imprint, will surprise many who continue to pigeon-hole female or political hip-hop. If nothing else, this is good music. Invincible approaches every subject, flow and concept with a focused intensity that is missing from most music period. andres reyes

Whoaaa! 9th wonder has done it again! Everybody was getting tired of him doing the same style of beats. But with the last tracks he’s done, including the Erykah Badu joint and this one, he has proven to be one of the illest most versatile producer. I expect a bright future for the man, and i bet Phonte & Big Pooh are real sorry they let him go, haha. By the way Jean Grae is on point again, in the video i saw a different appearence than i expected to see of her, but she brought it off real good, definitely our fav female mc.
