Last weekend Deluge and me met Amalia and Opolopo for the first time at their debut gig in Amsterdam. We were baffled to hear that miss Amalia actually has this beautiful voice in real life as well and wasn’t singing off key at all. Not every artist can hold their own when it comes to live performances, but this lady sure can. During diner yesterday I discovered Opolopo likes to be picked up by men and Amalia loves food and taking pictures. Both were pretty satisfied after a good Indonesian meal and are now of to another part of the world. Peep the new “Freeze That!” video, which is crackalackin’..
Back in 2005, Kindred Spirits put out an album that to this day remains in rotation for me: Kid Sublime’s “Basement Soul”, easily one of the best albums to ever come out of the Netherlands. If you’re not familiar with Kid Sublime, this Amsterdam based DJ & producer was one of the founding members of Rednose Distrikt. As a DJ he won several titles and toured the world backing up Zuco103. But he really turned heads with his debut album “Basement Soul”. The album is great mix of soulful tunes and head nodding hiphop, with each track featuring an artist that perfectly fits the production. The track I thought I’d share today is the one track that stands out for me, “Something About Your Love” featuring Nicky Guiland of HEAVy. If you like the sounds you can still cop the album over here.

Today would’ve been Dilla‘s birthday and it’s hard to imagine it has been almost five years already since his passing? Still Dilla‘s legacy lives on in many ways. Not only did B.Kyle release his “Still Shining” documentary…there’s more. Ma Dukes and The J Dilla Foundation recently announced the winner of ‘The International J Dilla Tribute Art Contest’. NY artist Joe Buck won the contest with his winning “J Dilla the SpeciaLIST” design. This signed, limited edition print, as well as special lithograph poster and t-shirt are exclusively available for sale at www.art4dilla.com. All proceeds will be donated to The J Dilla Foundation to help fund their ongoing programs.
Last, but not least all Dutch Dilla heads are welcome to join us at the “Dilla Lives” tribute event (flyer after the jump) at the Bitterzoet in Amsterdam this Sunday. DJ’s Turne, FS Green, SirOJ and Deluge (initiator) will be playing Dilla minded music all through the night and of course all proceeds go to the J Dilla Foundation as well. Raise it up!

The third edition of The Gardens is a special one. Our friends Full Crate & FS Green have recently released their Hi-Hat Club Vol. 5: Eggs And Pancakes album on Melting Pot Music and this needed to be celebrated. I’d like to thank the guys from Cologne for last weeks release party in Germany and this Friday it’s time for the Amsterdam release party at the Bitterzoet. Not only will you be hearing the album through some bad ass speakers, but there will also be a limited amount of vinyl available for a special price. So come on over to support and get loose.
Manga & Crate decided to put together a blend of some soulful stuff for you and yours and behold…the The Gardens: November Nicess blend was a fact. You can either listen to it via Mixcloud or download it directly. Remember to visit us every 1st Friday of the month…hope to see ya’ll this Friday!
It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard from the ever so talented producer FS Green, but he’s back with Full Crate as they are on the verge of dropping Hi-Hat Club Vol. 5 “Eggs And Pancakes”. Six tracks from each producer plus two collaborations as well. The time is finally here for some of those soon to be classics, that have been locked in the vault for way too long, to be released. Cherish gems such as “Troopercat” and “Thursday”, because you might need them either in the club or at home on a rainy day. I’m dying to meet all the guys from Cologne at the official German release party on the 29th and there is also a rumor that there will be a release party in Amsterdam the week after. Brace yourself for another amazing Melting Pot release, because this one is a must cop! Whether your poisson is MP3 or vinyl…we got that fix.

For those living in the wonderful city of Amsterdam, you are hereby invited to drop by the shop formely known as Concrete (Spuistraat 250, Amsterdam). In a hostile takeover the shop has been transformed (just during the Amsterdam Dance Event) in to a Red Bull Music Academy pop-up radio studio. This Friday Mark Pritchard will be giving a special lecture so come one, come all. You can listen to all the shows on the Internet by visiting www.redbullmusicacademyradio.com or on the ether (Amsterdam) via 107.4 FM. We’ll also be broadcasting live on Sunday, but more about that later.
Some of you might have already read about The Gardens, but for those that haven’t here’s the deal. Every 1st Friday of the month Full Crate & Manga turn the Bitterzoet into their private playground. Very big shout out to Yoji & Crate for putting together this dope ass promo video. In other news we have some Eggs and Pancakes coming up shortly, but tomorrow is another day!

You can download extra bonus material by holding the album artwork in front of your webcam. For all the digital freaks visit La Melodia’s Bandcamp or get your vinyl freak on over at Rush Hour.
