I remember the good old days when BBE released one of the best compilation series ever. All rare Soul and Funk tunes that you’d have to pay a fortune for to find on original vinyl. Great news…the “Strange Games & Funky Things” series is returning. Volume 5 is set to release later this year, but to get everyone’s attention they are releasing a limited 7-inch (1000 copies) first.
The S.S.O. Orchestra from Belgium released “Faded Lady” back in ’76 which later became a classic hip hop breakbeat. Enchanting strings and a killer bass line where more than enough reason for Diamond D to sample it on his debut album and more recently Busta Rhymes sampled it as well. August 30th is your chance to get a copy of this re-release with a very very rare instrumental version on the flipside.

The homie Myele from Electric Wire Hustle informed me that they will be playing in Amsterdam on Monday 19th at the Sugar Factory. In case you’re not hip to these New Zealand cats yet, check out their epk (via BBE) and rehearsal video shot at the RBMA studio in London (presented by Pinboard) below. BBE is also re-releasing EWH’s debut selftitled album in a few weeks and I’m hoping for some vinyl.
I suggest you come check out Psst New Music with Electric Wire Hustle, Ladi6 and Parks, because from 8:30pm till 1:00am it’s ON. The homie Full Crate will be playing some soulfulness as well and please take a look at this video Suite903 shot of him and Mar talking about how fly she was. Damage is only €8.50 or if you’re lucky you might win some FREE tickets (2 x 2). Simply place a comment or email (contest[@]moovmnt.com) stating the reason why you love Electric Wire Hustle so damn much.

Two years ago, Slakah the Beatchild dropped “Soul Movement Vol.1″ on us and boy was it sweet. Nowadays good Nu-Soul music is getting harder and harder to find for the simple fact that less and less artists are making it. Together with Ebrahim and Tingsek, Slakah is promoting their “Vibe, Love, Smile” tour and because their Detroit tour got cancelled, the trio decided to share “War Within” with everybody. Check out the FREE download HERE!

The time has finally come for Tyto drop his latest “Special Kind of Fool” album on us. The first single “Emotions” (click HERE to purchase) came out last month and contained some big names on the remixes. Waajeed was one of the producers on there, but my person fav was the Dego & Akwasi‘s 2000 Black Remix. We’ve been waiting for this to drop eversince we interviewed Ty last year before his show at the Bitterzoet in Amsterdam. This release is now available via and on CD via the BBE website, so show sum love for this Hip Hop veteran! Songs like “Heart Is Breaking”, “Get 2 The Sky”, “Me” and “Falling” are just incredible and show us that Ty still got it even after being in the game for so long. Definitely a worhty successor to “Closer” and this honestly sounds like a breath of fresh air.

BBE is dropping bombs again. After some crazy compilation albums like DJ Spinna‘s “The Boogie Back” and John Morales‘“The M&M Mixes” they’re back with some hot Ghetto Disco, Funk & African Boogie. Kon & Amir drop “Off Track Vol. III: Brooklyn” on us with a bang. We thought it would be nice to give ya’ll a taste of what you can expect from this double action packed album, by sharing Kon’s Continuous Mix. The album will be out later this month and can be bought HERE.
You might already knew that big man Ty from London is dropping “Special Kind of Fool” on us somewhere April. It’s the tale of an artist who after ten years, three critically acclaimed albums, collaborations with the likes of Tony Allen, De La Soul, Damon Albarn and Estelle, a Mercury nomination amongst other accolades, and a worldwide army of fans, has always followed his heart. “Emotions” is the first single off the new album and there’s also going to be numerous wicked remixes of the track from 2000 Black, Daz-I-Que and Waajeed coming next month! Big ups BBE, Raj and Ty of course.

You might have noticed that BBE has been releasing some real quality compilations lately. One I’ve been looking forward to is this new “DJ Spinna presents: The Boogie Back” album that will be out November 24th. We uploaded the “Boogie Bundle Mix” to our Mixcloud and just like the “Strange Breaks & Mr. Thing Vol. II” you can give it a listen, before you decide to purchase it HERE. Here’s what BBE had to say about the compilation…
A cornerstone of Hip-Hop’s late 90′s indie-uprise, DJ Spinna made much of his first impression on listeners as the musical background of his group The Jigmastas (having released an impressive slew of 12″ singles on his then self-run label Beyond Real during this time) as well as providing the canvas for an array of that era’s lyrical giants. As an emcee in New York City, if you didn’t have a Spinna production under your belt, well, you just hadn’t accomplished all there was to accomplish. Everyone from Mos Def, Talib Kweli to Pharaohe Monch boasted Spinna beats to prove their worth to the scene. At the height of indie-kingpin Rawkus Records heyday, Spinna was in demand, also churning out timeless classics of the era from the likes of J-Live, Mr. Complex and The Polyrhythm Addicts (his all-too-brief collabo-group with Apani B., Shaabam Sadeeq and Complex). Spinna is back with his latest foray into the world of boogie.
BBE is hitting us with a shit storm of quality releases! Yesterday they released another must have release “Pins and Digits”. This is Julien Dyne’s long awaited debut album following the critical acclaim of his first release “Phantom Limbo EP” (2007). Best known for his work as the drummer for Opensouls and Tyra and the Tornadoes, Julien has also worked with the likes of Verse Two, Nathan Haines, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Ladi6. Head on over to BBE’s website to purchase this soulful EP. Big up Lefto for hooking us up with the remix that came out on Wonderful Noise.

After many succesful ‘Strange’ series (remember those classic “Strange Games and Things” compilations?) it’s about time BBE released a sequal to “Strange Breaks”. It’s successor is called “Strange Breaks & Mr. Thing Vol. 2″ and is set to release tomorrow as a digital release. For those who don’t know…Mr. Thing scratches shit up like an angry hooker in a catfight. Eighteen of the best kept breaks are mixed together for your listening pleasure just to give you a taste. If you want to own each and every single one of these rarities, be sure to buy this sick ass compilation HERE. In the meanwhile visit our Mixcloud to check out the mix!
UpMyAlley is equally happy and proud to present the very first EP of extra talented London based singer Shuanise. aptly entitled “Voice Of Reason”.
