Garnering big buzz before proper release, and played plenty on both Giles Peterson and Benji B’s Radio shows, “Water No Enemy” is a chop of the Fela tune of similar name. Complete with off it’s kilter swinging drums, dreamy synths, and filtered horns, this tune creates an irresistible vibe and bumps warm and lovely on vinyl. On the flip, TBG offers up “Lost And Gone” – a raw downtempo head nodder. To pre-order contact info@conch.co.nz..

One of my favorite Frenchies must be the homie Onra. He just put a brand new demo on his Soundcloud which we’d “L.O.V.E” to share with you. Really wanted to go see Onra, Benji B, Jamie XX, Mark de Clive-Lowe and Lefto play tomorrow at the Demo party in Ghent (Belgium), but I’m afraid we’re not going to make it after all.

“2nd 7″ of this series dedicated to the “Children of the Drum & Repetitive Beats Lovers” Faces Records is proud to introduce you a new “face” on board : Sam Verstraten aka Sam A La Bamalot is a new Dutch producer. Armed with a MPC1000, MicroKorg and a KaossPad he creates futuristic soundwalls with crooked, broken vertebra drum patterns, while suddenly strange vocals shoot through your ears from left to right.
The A-side “A Bird’s Leg” was favourited by Gilles Peterson and played already many times on his Worldwide show as well as on Benji B‘s & DJ Lefto’s show. This is now available for pre-order on the Rush Hour website.

You might gave heard about Africa HiTech on the low or heard some exclusives on Benji B‘s Deviation. I’ve always loved “Too Late” which was on the RBMA “Various Assets” CD and last year Warp released a compilation (2010 from Warp Records) with “Blen” on it. Both were probably the fruit of a remarkable cooperation between Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek at the Red Bull Music Academy 2007 in Toronto….thus forming Africa HiTech. This contemporary mix of Dubstep and Soultronica has people going nuts and of course we’ve been pumping this for a minute. I can easily say this is one of the most anticipated releases coming out this year.
Their first official 12″ is a fact and will be dropping next week on Warp. It contains a “Blen”, plus a remix and a brand new track called “The Sound of Tomorrow”. It’s already available on vinyl at Rush Hour for the early birds with a craving for vinyl instead of worms. Expect their EP to drop soon as well, but in the meantime lets focus on the 12″ and let it take you there.

Our second day here at the Red Bull Music Academy started with an insightful lecture with Dutch DJ/producer Martyn. None other than Benji B asked Martyn about his musical roots, his inspiration and his way of creating his significant sound. We also saw a chance to interact with some of the participants such as Swede:art, Kidkanevil & Manzilla (Electric Wire Hustle) and get their take on their time at the RBMA. Ex-participant Oddisee stopped by to check out the new talent and will be blessing some of the material made in the past couple of days. We received a preview of a track that 7 of the participants worked on with Hudson Mohawke and got word that HudMo will be back later this week for more sessions. The evening was reserved for a live performance by a number of participants at Queen of Hoxton. While we’re posting this Space Dimension Controller, Nando Pro, Ross McHenry & Thompson are having a private little party in the lobby with Space’s 40 records he just got as a present. We’ve never heard Dilla’s beats bang as much as they do over this Genelec soundsystem.

Red Bull Music Academy 2010 participant Illum Sphere drops the first vinyl ep of a two part album. ‘Long Live The Plan’ features six new tracks plus a Samiyam remix. I personally first heard of Illum Sphere from MyManHenri, who put me on to this Illum Sphere Dublab Mix. After hearing the 7′ with Mono/Poly we knew Illum Sphere was someone to follow in 2010. This new EP is scheduled for a december release, but already got a first spin on Benji B and Mary Anne Hobbs. You can head over to Fat City for more info, or just follow Illum Sphere on Twitter..

FunkinEven 1956 is the latest artist to join the ranks of Eglo records (Floating Points / Alexander Nut). Featuring the incredible vocal talent of Swedish born/Hackney bred artist Fatima (who some of you will recognize through collaborations with SA-RA’s Shafiq Husayn and Stones Throws Dam-Funk) Kleer is the title track taken from the forthcoming 4 track EP, which showcases Funkineven’s individual futuristic soul bounce. Being his debut release we felt it only right to go all out and press the vinyl up on clear wax, so hold tight for the finished product. Having already been heavily supported in it’s demo form by 1Xtra’s Benji B, the track is now finished, mastered and ready to take on the globe!
West Londoner FunkinEven creates sounds that inhabit a similar atmosphere to The Neptunes, Model 500 and Bugz In The Attic just as much as they do Cameo, NPG and Zapp. Take a listen and invent your own labels… we just know that everytime it’s been performed live it has most definitely “blown up tha spot!”. The full EP will also feature two B side tacks ‘Mad Swing’ and ‘You’, which where previously available as rough versions on the net but have now been finished, polished and mastered for your bumping enjoyment.
