Chris Turner sure is one of those artists to look out for in 2011. I met Chris two weeks ago in Rotterdam where he was singing background for Bilal, and I’ve been listening to this LoveCHILD Prequel EP that he was selling ever since. This remix has been in the works for quite some time. Bilal is a mysterious dude. You never know what might or might not move him. Same goes for Black Milk. These guys move at their own pace and at their own times. Initially, upon listening to the roughs of the album, “The Dollar” was one of the tracks that led Plug Research to sign Bilal. We’ve been telling you about Virginia-born Nottz for a while now and the time has finally arrived. Tomorrow he is set to release his self-produced debut “You Need This Music” and here’s the verdict. Eventhough I’ve already heard quite a few tracks of the new album, it’s still well worth your money. I don’t buy CD’s very often, but in case I come across a copy I’m picking this up for sure. Nottz’ style is very refreshing and it’s not just one trick he pulls of. If you listen to “Right Here” featuring Bilal, you hear how divers the album really is. One of my favourites is without a doubt “I Still Love You” featuring Mayer Hawthorne, where Nottz declares his love for Roxanne Shante reminiscent of the early days of hiphop. Simply said…this album gives me a positve feeling and that’s something that doesn’t happen very often any more. It’s going to be on repeat for the next few days and I might even have to put this in my top 10 for this year…we’ll see. Don’t hesitate and get it on Nottz – I Still Love You Ft.
