We’ve been telling you about Virginia-born Nottz for a while now and the time has finally arrived. Tomorrow he is set to release his self-produced debut “You Need This Music”and here’s the verdict. Eventhough I’ve already heard quite a few tracks of the new album, it’s still well worth your money. I don’t buy CD’s very often, but in case I come across a copy I’m picking this up for sure. Nottz’ style is very refreshing and it’s not just one trick he pulls of. If you listen to “Right Here” featuring Bilal, you hear how divers the album really is. One of my favourites is without a doubt “I Still Love You” featuring Mayer Hawthorne, where Nottz declares his love for Roxanne Shante reminiscent of the early days of hiphop. Simply said…this album gives me a positve feeling and that’s something that doesn’t happen very often any more. It’s going to be on repeat for the next few days and I might even have to put this in my top 10 for this year…we’ll see. Don’t hesitate and get it on now!

VTech is premiering the first official music video off of Bilal‘s new album “Airtight’s Revenge” (Plug Research), directed and edited by Michael Sterling Eaton. In case you haven’t listened to the new album yet, I suggest you head on over to and give it an intense listen.
The following footage was recorded during the free performance that the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble hosted in Los Angeles recently, featuring some of today’s brightest talent. You’ve probably seen the video with Bilal already and now get ready for another amazing piece of music. This time around, check out the video from the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble featuring LA based and Brainfeeder master-mind, Flying Lotus. Alongside the all-star cast of musicians, enjoy everyone doing a rendition of “Drips” from Flying Lotus’s recently released album “Cosmogramma” and “Take Notice” an arrangement of a J Dilla original from his “Ruff Draft” EP. The audio portion of “Drips/Take Notice” is also available for free mp3 download via Miguel Atwood-Ferguson’s Bandcamp page.

Last month we met up with Soulquarian Bilal after his show in Amsterdam (Paradiso) and behold the result. Our camera man Joao couldn’t make it, so me and Deluge decided to shoot the video ourselves on his Canon 550D. Big thank you for editing it though and I think it came out pretty nice, because Bilal goes pretty deep.
As you might know his album “Airtight’s Revenge” (Plug Research) is coming out in a month and today his first single “Restart” drops. Bilal is giving away the track on his website at http://www.plugresearch.com/bilal where fans can enter their email address to receive an immediate download. The single includes an instrumental version and a remix by Los Angeles experimental Brainfeeder producer Deadelus. Pre-order yourself a vinyl copy of the album HERE or if you’re more into CD’s you can get a copy over at Rush Hour or Amazon. Your digital hunger can be satisfied by visiting iTunes.
As Eglo records reaches it’s 10th release, West London’s Funkineven releases his third record already. On one side we have “Heartpound” which really is a tune for the dancefloor, while on the other side “Another Space” reminds me a bit of some early rave shit from back in the days. Steve has been busy remixing for Hyperdub artist Ikonika while at the same time practicing as part of Fatima‘s live band. Who made their debut appearance for Deviation at Fabric recently, supporting Bilal. Pictures of which can be found HERE.

After all these years the wait is almost over! Bilal is back with a whole new style of album entitled “Airtight’s Revenge” which you’ll either love or hate. One of my favorite producers at the moment, Nottz stepped up to produce “Free” which is not on the album by the way. This FREE download was brough to you by the good folks over at Plug Research and be on the look out for “Airtight’s Revenge” to drop September 14th! We might have something special coming up soon this summer, but more on that later. Shout out to JKim and Rush Hour..

I heard this track a while ago on Gilles Petersons Worldwide show with Robert Glasperand Bilal. Even searched for it a while, but never found it. Thanks to DJ Rahdu I finally got my hands on the song. Robert Glasper will release an outtake compilation soon. Can’t wait for that to drop since “Double Booked” is one of my favorite 2009 albums. As you might already know Glasper is a big dilla fan, and this new track is another Dilla tribute. The track featuresZynzelay, and is a rework of Busta’s “Show me what you got” where dilla sampled Stereolab “Come and play in the milky night”. If you want more of this buy “Double Booked” on
