Now I’ve been a huge fan of eighties Boogie/Funk music for ages and when I noticed that it was steadily making a comeback I was psyched. Earlier this year the ambassador of modern Funk, Dam-Funk told me he had the feeling a whole lot of new artists would be dropping that Future Funk in the years to come. The time is ripe…the fOnK is back. Tokyo Dawn Records just released this bangin’ “The Boogie” compilation, filled with nastyness from B. Bravo, AD Bourke, Opolopo & Amalia, Saturn Never Sleeps and much more. Available HERE digitally now and January 21st on CD.

In 2011 Stereoptico is releasing some new music by Astro Hernandez, consisting out of Cohoba & n6el who are both ex RBMA alumni. The EP is called “Años Luz” and will be full of experimental dancefloor music, ranging from funk to house and from electro to smoked out boogie. If you haven’t downloaded their free “5683″ EP yet…do so HERE and be on the lookout for that f0nK.

In Februari we posted a stream of Krystal Klear‘s banger “Tried For Your Love”, which over the last year has gotten lots of airplay by us as on the radio as well as in the clubs. Now many months later the “Tried For Your Love” EP is finally out on All City. This debut solo project is filled with four Boogie bangers including the title track. Hudson Mohawke did a remix which is also on there. This release will not disappoint all lovers of Future Funk! Free download thanks to Pitchfork and available via Rush Hour and the All City shop next week.

I remember buddy Bravo telling me about DâM-FunK hitting him up for some exclusives for this mix he was doing for Mary Anne Hobbs. A month later here it is and at the same time we say farewell to Mary Anne as she is leaving BBC1 for good. Of course a lot of unreleased music from Ad Bourke, Teeko, B. Bravo and the master of Funk himself. So sit back and enjoy this “The Future Sound of Modern Funk” mix and download it HERE.

The ambassador of boogie funk – DâM-FunK – is dropping another hot 12-inch EP on us with vocal versions of “Hood Pass Intact” featuring MC Eiht and “4 My Homies” featuring Steve Arrington (of Slave). Rounding out the four-track Hood Pass Intact are contributions from Devonwho on the instrumental re-edit of Toeachizown’s “Come On Outside” and JT Donaldson and TK co-producing the non-album single “How It Be Between U & Me?”. Keep an eye out for this late summer release on Stones Throw.

Homegirl Seinabo Sey and Frank Nobel from Sweden bring it again. Under the name of Def Chronic they drop some sweet, taste “Apple Juice” on us straight of the “Def Chronic Vol. 1″ EP. This FREE download is for all the Swedish hunnies out there looking sexy as hell.

When I first heard Onra‘s Funk-inspired 12″ on Allcity Records I thought whut?! But now that I’ve heard the entire album, I’m like ‘oh that’s what’s up’. It all comes together on the album and once again OlivierDaySoul blows my mind on “My Mind Is Gone”. This guy is the future and we’ll be hearing more in the near future I hope. On “The One”T3 from Slum Village drops some funky rhymes and Walter Mecca (France) does it “To The Beat”. Really nice to hear more producers getting influenced by that eighties boogie funk. Get ready to spend some money, because this is a must BUY!

Last week Dãm-Funk was our guest at the MiNiBAR and Joao Costa was so nice to make a nice little video of him performing “Killdat” live with vocals. A whole lot more collaborations are to come later this year. Very curious about the project with Steve Arrington and about how the whole Master Blazter project is going to develop itself. Also enjoy some FREE Funk…

We told you last week that Stones Throw‘s ambassador of Boogie Funk is back in Amsterdam this Friday. Before the clock strikes midnight L.A.’s very own Dãm-Funk will be at the MiNiBAR to give ya’ll a taste of that Funk. An intimate signing session will take place, so bring your vinyl or CD if you want an autograph. Stick around for a while and hear Dãm-Funk play a couple of records to get you in the mood. Don’t expect a whole set, because he’s saving that for Boogie Bash at the Paradiso later that night.
If you were wondering what you were doing Friday night after 1pm…now you know. KC The Funkaholic was so nice to give us a couple of guestlist spots to give away via Moovmnt and all you need to do is follow THIS LINK and invite a few friends. Also leave a comment with your very first encounter with Dãm-Funk’s music. Where were you when you first heard it? How did you hear about him? What went through your mind when you heard his music for the first time? The most original answers (read hot females) will be contacted.
As if Boogie Bash isn’t enough, you can also enjoy the crazy sounds of Brainfeeder‘s very own Mothaf*ckin’ Gaslamp Killer upstairs in the main room at MOSH!. Buy tickets online to make sure you get in where you fit in.
Onra just dropped a brand new double A sided 12″ on Allcity Records. Nev was going nuts about the “High Hopes” remake featuring Reggie B, but seeing the original is a classic I chose to stream another joint. The entire release seems to be a homage to the eighties Boogie/Funk genre, but with a Hip Hop twist. The album drops in April and has the same name as the 12″. Let us know what you think of this funky release and don’t forget to BUY it if you like what you hear.
