I remember visiting London for the first time when I was just 14. Me and the homie Mr. Speak jumped on a plane and went digging for records mainly. Most of the record stores we visited then, don’t exist anymore. Happy to still have those memories though. That Reggae shop was one of my favorite spots that trip and Mr Bongo was located in the same building if I remember correctly.
Now Mr Bongo recently launched their brand new website and online store. To celebrate this, they’ve put together a 10-track sampler containing the finest of the current Mr Bongo sound. They’re giving this away as a freebie via their Bandcamp page for the next 30 days…so hurry up and download.
Almost two decades later I still have love for Mr Bongo because they’ve been rereleasing some incredible albums from Brazil. They’re even in the process of launching their first venture within Brazil so we can expect even more beautiful exclusive music to come our way. One of our favorite albums rereleased on Mr Bongo this year is without a doubt Cravo & Canela‘s “Preço De Cada Um”. Take a look at their impressive catalogue while you’re at it.
In celebration of their new site we’ve been given the opportunity to give away 3 x CD’s and 3 x LP’s of our favorite Mr. Bongo rerelease to our visitors (that’s you). So if you would like to WIN one of these Cravo & Canela CD’s or LP’s for FREE here’s what you have to do.
1. Send an email to info@moovmnt.com (before Nov. 25 2011) and tell us why you need to win this album.
2. Don’t forget to mention to put ‘Mr Bongo’ in the subject title and also put ‘CD’ or ‘LP’ in there so we’ll know what your preference is.
3. Increase your changes of winning by placing a comment…yes I will check. All winners will be contacted late next week!

Jneiro Jarel just put a preview on Youtube entitled “See Them Cry” featuring Cilla K. This song is from his upcoming “Fauna” album on Kindred Spirits. I heard the vibe is very Brasil and that some special T-shirts are might be released as well. More info on this soon…
So much beautiful music has been coming out of this Timeless project and it doesn’t seem to end. Yet another treat, this time in the form of a FREE mix of Arthur Verocai‘s life work by DJ Nuts. He’s an astute and rigorous historian of Brasil’s vast and varied musical culture. His record collection is legendary; his skills as a DJ are world class. Mochilla commissioned him to make this mix to help people understand the extraordinary legacy of Verocai. Many by now know Verocai’s self-titled album, some even know the more popular compositions and arrangements, but none have dug as hard as Nuts. Years of collecting and a strong friendship with Verocai himself have made this historic mix possible. 78 minutes of all Verocai compositions and arrangements is a dream come true.
For such a mix to be made, only a true Brasilian music aficionado could have created this, and we are honored to be able to share it with you. Without having heard this mix, I already get goosebumps by the sheer anticipation. Check out the full read on Vtech…let’s get nuts!

Jneiro Jarel (aka Dr. Who Dat?) has always been a huge fan of Arthur Verocai and sampled some of his work in the past. Jneiro was delighted to be able to work on this project and turned Arthur’s “Balada 45″ into an ode to Brazilian girls. One luv to Vtech for makin’ this available in the form of a FREE download. Don’t forget to check out the new “Android Love Mayhem” album that released today via

For those that don’t know…Arthur Verocai is composer/arranger from Brasil. He has worked with giants as Jorge Ben, Gal Costa and Leny Andrade, but hiphop heads know him for his often sampled (by Ludacris, MF Doom and Little Brother) self-titled solo album. The album came out at the height of the Brasilian dictatorship and was a commercial failure. According to Verocai, he had never played the record, “alive or dead”! His delight at the opportunity to play this music in its complete form can be seen on the Timeless DVD box set (which is f*cking amazing).
This song, “Flying to L.A.” was written specifically for the concert at the Luckman. It starts with open drums by Mamao from the famed Brasilian trio Azymuth, and then goes on a beautiful harmonic journey. Massive props to VTech and Mochilla for this beautiful initiative.
