This past July, the Do-Over crew spent a week in the Philippines for a Manila edition of their now world renown backyard party. Alongside the usual crew they brought Beat Junkie Rhettmatic as well as Bugz in the Attic’s Daz-I-Kue along for the ride. The two teamed up with local producer Red-I and spent their spare time on the trip making music together. The result? A free download entitled The Do-Over Manila EP, featuring a variety of instrumental tracks by the three collectively as well as individually. I must admit that the download process is a bit of a hassle, but if you like what you hear it’s a small price to pay. Check it out on The Do-Over’s website.

Most of you probably heard of Daz-I-Kue (Bugz In The Attic) from back in the days when that West London sound was filling our ears with soulful broken beats. Now I never heard of Stan Smith before, but this newly discovered MC from Atlanta teamed up with Daz-I-Kue and they made an entire album together. DJ’s are gonna love this, because this funky debut album called “The Get Up Movement” contains some dancefloor party anthems fo sho. Really interesting album coming out later this month on Tokyo Dawn Records (available for pre-order).

Dego "Freeness Vol 3"

Dego & Face Are Powerful:

Fresh off the release of his solo LP “A Wha Him Deh Pon?”, Dego is back at it again. This time blessing us with the third in his “Freeness” downloads, consisting of two unreleased tracks. The first being a typical Dego uptempo instrumental entitled “As Is”. The second one is a track I’ve been trying to get my hands on ever since I heard it on Phil Asher’s Restless Soul show a few months back. “Nothing More Powerful” features longtime collaborator Face, and is very reminiscent of the lovely sound Dego co-created with Silhouette Brown. Head over to the 2000Black website to get your “Freeness” Vol. 3 now!

Tokyo Dawn is back with another great release. The German-based production and DJ collective SoulParlor is about to release their “Evoluzion” album, which spelled bacwards reads ‘Noiz U Love’. Fully loaded with 19 tracks, it manages to cross several musical genres while staying hella fresh throughout. Highly suitable for DJ’s as well since Evoluzion contains a few heavy dancefloor hitters.

Expect guest vocals from the likes of Oddisee, Replife, Cecilia Stalin (Koop), Colonel Red, Jacob And The Appleblossom (Wagner Love) and more. The bonus remixes are also crazy and include Mark de Clive-Lowe, Afronaut, Daz-I-Kue (Bugz In The Attic), Dego (4hero/2000black) and TDR’s boogie maestro Opolopo. You can buy an exclusive pre-release download HERE now before the CD hits the streets on June 3rd. And remember…this evoluzion will be blogevised!

d-felic

A few months ago D-Felic released his debut album on “Oost West Thuis Best” (which means ‘there’s no place like home’ in Dutch). This album has a soulful vibe and fuses electronic sounds with Nu-Jazz and Broken Beat. The majority of the vocals was done by Colonel Red (People Records, Bugz In The Attic) and Tondráe Kemp. Other guest artists are guitarist Marcus Machado and famed Dutch trumpeter Jan van Duikeren (Candy Dulfer, Paul Weller, New Cool Collective Big Band).
Both a video and a Tom Trago (Rush Hour Recordings) remix of deep house album cut “The More I” (featuring Colonel Red) are both on their way. Check out the the digital release at the iTunes Store or pre-order the CD at Bol.com and leave a comment to let us know what you think. Thanks to Alex Buiter for the photography and D-Felic for giving away “Here For You” as a Moovmnt exclusive download.

Funkineven

FunkinEven 1956 is the latest artist to join the ranks of Eglo records (Floating Points / Alexander Nut). Featuring the incredible vocal talent of Swedish born/Hackney bred artist Fatima (who some of you will recognize through collaborations with SA-RA’s Shafiq Husayn and Stones Throws Dam-Funk) Kleer is the title track taken from the forthcoming 4 track EP, which showcases Funkineven’s individual futuristic soul bounce. Being his debut release we felt it only right to go all out and press the vinyl up on clear wax, so hold tight for the finished product. Having already been heavily supported in it’s demo form by 1Xtra’s Benji B, the track is now finished, mastered and ready to take on the globe!

West Londoner FunkinEven creates sounds that inhabit a similar atmosphere to The Neptunes, Model 500 and Bugz In The Attic just as much as they do Cameo, NPG and Zapp. Take a listen and invent your own labels… we just know that everytime it’s been performed live it has most definitely “blown up tha spot!”. The full EP will also feature two B side tacks ‘Mad Swing’ and ‘You’, which where previously available as rough versions on the net but have now been finished, polished and mastered for your bumping enjoyment. After many ground breaking compilations and sideline projects (”DKD” & “Silhouette Brown”) the sound of London Boogie arrives! Dego & Kaidi now revert to the “2000 Black” moniker for this new installment to their evergrowing collection of masterpieces. “A Next Set A Rockers” is a genre defying collection of studio recordings demonstrating all that has influenced 2000 Black. Soul, Funk and Boogie are revealed in the bands very own unique style. The labyrinth of 70’s synthesizers and drums create a lavish warm feel in contrast to the current digital age. “A Next Set A Rockers’ has been crafted by the production skills of 4hero’s Dego and Bugz In The Attic’s Kaidi Tatham. Tracks like “Febulous” drop hypnotic dancehall percussion laced under the warmest brazilian sound, in addition the duo’s dynamic sound is complemented by strong songs such as “Lost It” featuring the voice of Face, “So Right” with Ferraz, “Simple Sacrifice” sung by Nadine Charles, “Take It Back” with Rasiyah, plus Philadelphia’s Lady Alma on “Move Over”.  Goldenchild.
