The third edition of The Gardens is a special one. Our friends Full Crate & FS Green have recently released their Hi-Hat Club Vol. 5: Eggs And Pancakes album on Melting Pot Music and this needed to be celebrated. I’d like to thank the guys from Cologne for last weeks release party in Germany and this Friday it’s time for the Amsterdam release party at the Bitterzoet. Not only will you be hearing the album through some bad ass speakers, but there will also be a limited amount of vinyl available for a special price. So come on over to support and get loose.

BBE157SLP-1 Labels

I remember the good old days when BBE released one of the best compilation series ever. All rare Soul and Funk tunes that you’d have to pay a fortune for to find on original vinyl. Great news…the “Strange Games & Funky Things” series is returning. Volume 5 is set to release later this year, but to get everyone’s attention they are releasing a limited 7-inch (1000 copies) first.

The S.S.O. Orchestra from Belgium released “Faded Lady” back in ’76 which later became a classic hip hop breakbeat. Enchanting strings and a killer bass line where more than enough reason for Diamond D to sample it on his debut album and more recently Busta Rhymes sampled it as well. August 30th is your chance to get a copy of this re-release  with a very very rare instrumental version on the flipside.

Robert_Glasper_1

I heard this track a while ago on Gilles Petersons Worldwide show with Robert Glasper and Bilal. Even searched for it a while, but never found it. Thanks to DJ Rahdu I finally got my hands on the song. Robert Glasper will release an outtake compilation soon. Can’t wait for that to drop since “Double Booked” is one of my favorite 2009 albums. As you might already know Glasper is a big dilla fan, and this new track is another Dilla tribute. The track features Zynzelay, and is a rework of Busta’s “Show me what you got” where dilla sampled Stereolab “Come and play in the milky night”. If you want more of this buy “Double Booked” on Robert Glasper Trio - Double Booked

dilla-donutshop

Our buddies over at Stones Throw teamed up with Serato and the J Dilla Estate for this official J Dilla Serato release, “Donut Shop”. This is 2 discs with six J Dilla tracks, 2 sides with Serato Control Tone (for use with Serato Scratch Live DJ software), and 2 donut slipmats in a package designed by Studio No.1. This will be released May 10th (the day after Mother’s day) and is available for pre-order now.

The J Dilla tracks consist of three previously unreleased instrumentals selected by J.Rocc from the Dilla archives – “Safety Dance”, “Sycamore”, “Bars & Twists” – and three unreleased instrumental versions of Dilla’s production for Mos Def, Q-Tip and Busta Rhymes, each remastered by Elysian Masters who mixed and mastered J Dilla’s DonutsThe Shining and Ruff Draft albums.

Oh my god, yes oh my god! This is what I personally have been waiting for for years. The legendary A Tribe Called Quest coming together to perform once more. So what Tip got a little older and Phife got a little chubbier…who gives a shit?! This video gives me goosebumps all over shit got me hyped us as hell while it’s only 8am right here. This footage was shot at The Knitting Factory in BK and was brought to you by Its The Official. I truly urge these guys to do a European tour, because I know that would make so many people happy.

I recently got two dope Tee’s in the mail thanks Matt from Finale Design and let me tell you they’re ill! The design consists out of twelve hiphop icons each with their unique hair-style. For example we see Questlove, Craig Mack, Busta Rhymes, Mc Shan and Big Daddy Kane in full splendour. Had to inform ya’ll know about this hiphop-minded brand from Canada, cuz we think they have some mighty fresh design.

Seattle super producer and self proclaimed “perfect beat writer” Jake One steps from behind the boards to present his own debut full-length album, White Van Music. It’s frankly weird that an artist like Q-Tip, with his long and succesfull history, innovation and sheer quality should end up without a label after the fiasco that arose from releasing his frankly brilliant and highly bootlegged Kamal The Abstract album that there you go. So here is a Q-Tip album, not a finished bells and whistles album but a mixtape that basically follows up on the kind of material he was doing as Kamal. It’s excellent, a mixture of Ummah style neo abstract jazz-funk pieces, old school Tribe called quest beat, boom bip and the intelligence you expect from Q-Tip.

It’s grown up hip hop with an ear for the richness of black music – jazz funk and psychedelic rock all feature heavily in the music, with high quality artists, such as Andre 3000, Busta Rhymes, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and others. Get it on WarpMart.
