One of the biggest surprises for me this year was Curren$y’s “Pilot Talk” album. With his signature laidback flow, lots of weed talk and equipped with some top notch production, the New Orleans MC won me over a few minutes in. Today he’s set to release his second major label release, “Pilot Talk 2″, originally scheduled to drop last month. As with the previous installment, the subject matter often evolves around Curren$y’s favorite pastime and the album features some great production by Ski Beatz once again. Guest appearances include Raekwon, Fiend, Young Roddy, Trademark and one of our favorites, Dom Kennedy. I feel this one is even better than the previous, so make sure to check it out. Out today on Blu Roc/DD172!

Label troubles with both Young Money and No Limit caused this talented New Orleans MC to see his debut studio album to face delay after delay. It actually got to the point that Curren$y was no longer affiliated with those two crews and found himself instead releasing a steady stream of mixtapes. And it was not until 2009 that he finally made his debut with the appropriately titled This Ain’t No Mixtape. While his mixtape game didn’t slow down, he began also focusing on his proper studio records, such as Pilot Talk, his first album due out on the Blu Roc label. As the title implies, Curren$y’s still got a thing for getting high and rapping about it. After the jump you can watch the video of the second single “Roasted”. Pilot Talk drops July 17th. Prefix

First of all I’d like to give due props to Osman for gettin’ is hip to Stalley. He sent us a video a few months back and we liked it a lot, but I personally never digged deeper than that. Now my man Deluge recently did and in light of his On-Point interview, I thought it would be only right to get ya’ll hip to Madstalley as well.
This Ohio native hailing from New York dropped his mixtape “MadStalley: The Autobiography” last year, done over re-workings of Madlib beats showcasing his potential. Now 2010 is definitely Stalley’s year to blow. Stalley’s heavily featured on Ski Beatz upcoming “24 Hour Karate School” mixtape (on Dame Dash’ Creative Control label) and is also set to release a project in collaboration with Sa-Ra Creative Partners.
