Over two months ago Soopafly released his new “Best Kept Secret” album. Not really our type of hype, but there’s one crazy Funk jam on there entitled “GFunk Martian” featuring DāM-FunK & Terrace Martin that we had to share. In case you do want to purchase this one, go ahead and visit . This flew right under our radar so big up to the guys from Los Bangeles for getting us hip to this one.

After a lot of positive responses to the 1st “The Future of Funk” mix, me and Mr. Speak decided we wanted to do another one. It wasn’t very easy to keep the quality high, but we did our best on the sequal. I’m very pleased to present to you: “The Future of Funk” Pt. 2. Now Modern Funk music is still pretty niche so we’d like to contribute to the cause in our own way, since we’re not musicians ourselves. Big shout out to artists for hitting us up with music and special thanks to Tokyo Dawn Records who are releasing their “The Boogie” Vol. 2 compilation soon! Get ready for a 40 minute ride down the nasty side.
L.A.’s master of Funkster, DāM-FunK, teamed up with Scion A/V for the release of his latest “InnaFocusedDaze” EP which will be available as an October tour 10-inch vinyl release. The digital version is being given away as a free download and the 10″ will be out shortly as a warm up to his next full length album dropping on Stones Throw in 2012. Obviously this shit is CRACK…lovin’ the shit out of “Forever”..

Last week me and the homie Mr. Speak were just hanging out and decided to put together this “The Future of Funk” mix. It’s a well known fact I like that Modern Funk so I thought it was only fitting to share my love with the rest of the world. Did my best to get some exclusives in there together with a healthy dose of that bomb funk. Many thanks to all the artists for helping me put this together and thanks to Deluge for the last minute cover art. Enjoy this 45 minute ride to the funky side. Destination…The Future of Funk!

In 2009 the first mothership landed. Starship 27 was filled with musical crazyness and curated by J1. Shortly after the first compilation album was released, the eclectic Texas label iNsect Records, got in contact with him and talked about a possible follow-up. A few years later “Starship 27 Vol. 2: Take Off” returns with J1 again as it’s curatorial captain, guiding the spacecraft on its musical voyage. On board we find artists such as DaM-FunK, I-Ced, Dibia$e, P.U.D.G.E., Devonwho, House Shoes, Eric Lau, Computer Jay, Ras-G, Blackspade & Coultrain (and more). For those wondering why this unexplained phenomenon is called the Starship 27. J1 replied, “the secret to the name will be revealed on the 3rd installment of the trilogy…next year”. So stay tuned, mark the 29th on your calendar and get ready for some heavyweight beats.
