Yesterday the BBC aired an incredible show called “BBC Radio 1Xtra Stories: Gone Too Soon” about the legend known as J Dilla presented by Benji B. An amazing hour full of facts about Dilla, Slum Village and much much more with guest appearances from De La Soul, Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Questlove, Common, Dwele, etc. You have got to see this!! Go and check it out right NOW, right HERE..
I’m going to keep this short. The most groundbreaking hiphop group in the nineties, A Tribe Called Quest, has been the epitomy of what hiphop music is supposed to sound like for many. Tribe’s groundbreaking fusion of jazz, art and borough lifestyle was on a whole other level and equaly interesting is the story what happened to them as a collective. If Tribe is not in your top 3 of alltime hiphop, there’s probably something wrong with you and you should see a doctor. Anyways…actor Michael Rapaport has been working on a documentary entitled “Beats, Rhymes and Life: The History of A Tribe Called Quest” and I know I’m psyched as fuck to see this. Somewhere in 20110 this hits the streets, so keep your eyes open for it!
You might already knew that big man Ty from London is dropping “Special Kind of Fool” on us somewhere April. It’s the tale of an artist who after ten years, three critically acclaimed albums, collaborations with the likes of Tony Allen, De La Soul, Damon Albarn and Estelle, a Mercury nomination amongst other accolades, and a worldwide army of fans, has always followed his heart. “Emotions” is the first single off the new album and there’s also going to be numerous wicked remixes of the track from 2000 Black, Daz-I-Que and Waajeed coming next month! Big ups BBE, Raj and Ty of course.

For those who have never heard of André Orefjard before here’s the 411. André grew up in a diverse cultural suburban area in Stockholm, Sweden. He grew up to the sounds of Manu Dibango and Marvin Gaye, but soon started listening to hiphop like De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest.
André then moved to New York and in the year 2000 André released his debut EP, “Back on Track”. This EP caught the attention of – London based label – Nuphonic, where he was signed. The same year “Things Do Not Appear” was included on the compilation “Nuphonic 4″. Shortly after that André was also featured on the compilation “Bass-Ment Classics” on the swedish label Raw Fusion with a sick remix of “I’ll Do That”.
Now a year later the magnificent “Refreshment of Thoughts” album dropped and “Realize” is the most tremendous joint on there so peep it! I was stunned to see that an artists of this capacity is nowhere to be found on the Internet so we hope we can get some eyes on this guy. Go to iTunes to get some of his music and please use Google to find you some more.

After such a long time I’m happy to announce that De La is finally back with a new album. I was fortunate enough to meet Posdnuos a couple of years ago and these guys are so humble after more than two decades of making wonderful, concious music. Unfortunately this album is a continuous mix and after five years of waiting I personally hoped for a lot more. On the other hand…it’s a collaboration with Nike+ and was made to enhance your running experience.
I’m not here to tell ya’ll how dope De La Soul is. Nor am I going to tell you the details concerning how this album was created. I just want to tell you to go listen to the music for yourself and buy the “Are You In?” album on iTunes if you decide you like it. We wanted to give you guys a taste so here are the two dopest songs.

Seattle super producer and self proclaimed “perfect beat writer” Jake One steps from behind the boards to present his own debut full-length album, White Van Music. Polishing his production chops over the last decade, Jake One has crafted the musical soundscapes for everyone from De La Soul (“Rock Co.Kane Flow” feat. MF DOOM) to 50 Cent (“All Of Me” feat. Mary J. Blige). With an impressive and diverse discography Jake One has managed to bring his sound from the underground to the Billboard Top 10 charts. The album contains a cast of legendary guest rappers ranging from some of Hip Hop’s most respected mainstream acts Freeway, Young Buck & Busta Rhymes to underground legends MF DOOM, Black Milk, Nottz, Elzhi, Brother Ali & Little Brother.
