Yesterday I opened my eyes and noticed I had been blind to certain facts of life. 29-year-old beatsmith Apollo Brown reps the D and comes with a very recognizable style on his latest “The Reset” album. In 2009 he won the Detroit Red Bull Big Tune Championships and competed in the national finals. Apollo then signed as a producer with the Mello Music Group last December.
Up till now he has released the “Skilled Trade” (2007) and the “Make Do” (2009) Beat Tapes. Those made collaborations possible with Detroiters Finale, Danny Brown and Kam Moye aka Supastition. On “The Reset” he gets some help from Rapper Big Pooh, Black Milk, Declaime, Buff 1, MED, Grap Luva, John Robinson, Kenn Starr, Oddisee and Diamond District.
There’s definitely some nineties influences to be heard on this album, like “Lower The Boom” getting into that Wu-Tang vibe or “Ghetto Soul Music”. I suggest you give this one a listen and in case you want to BUY it head on over to

Last month in London we bumped into Oddisee who recorded with several RBMA participants. One of which was Kidkanevil and they recorded “Zo0o0o0p!!!” together, which made it onto the second installment of “Jus Like Music & Apple Juice Break present: Oscillations”. Again a lot of dope artists on this compilation. We had to drop “untitled971″ by Stevo, because it’s not only fresh but also cuz he’s been a long time supporter of Moovmnt. DMV duo DTMD (producer Dunc & MC Toine) have released their debut release “The Basics” EP. You might gave heard Dunc contributie on Diamond District’s critically acclaimed album “In The Ruff”. Toine on the other hand did a feature on Oddisee‘s “Oddisee 101″ album. Oddisee speaks higly of these cats and lets us know they ain’t even 21 yet and already this dope. Just imagine what they’ll be on when they can drink legally?
I’m not really on that reviewing tip right now, so I suggest you head on over to their Bandcamp to download this EP for free and judge for yourself. I do know you’re not going to be disappointed at all. Both productionally and lyrically this is one to watch and not to be slept on. Once again mad props to Osmanologie for making us hip to this…

The big day is finally here for fans of DMV triumvirate Diamond District. Their debut full-length album, “In The Ruff”, is out today via Mello Music Group. The album, which features two brand new tracks from the group as well as their hard to come by material from a limited release this spring, is available in stores and on iTunes. One of the just-released tracks is “Something For Y’all” produced by Kev Brown. While District member Oddisee produces the vast majority of Diamond District’s songs himself, working with Brown hardly involved leaving the group’s comfort zone. “Working with Kev is honestly keeping it in-house – he founded the Low Budget Crew and gave birth to everything that I’m doing right now. We wanted that signature Kev Brown sound- grimy soul.”
“Something For Y’all” showcases emcees Oddisee, X.O. and yU trading verses, rapping to their audience, and trying to upstage each other. The track has a distinctively old school vibe.
