Today is officially #blackstarfriday as Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) decided to drop their first single “Fix Up” off their upcoming reunion album. Produced by Madlib, both Talib and Yasiin sound like they never left which promises a lot for the new album. Little is known about it at the moment, but supposedly Madlib is handling a large part of the production! Visit Black Star‘s website to purchase the track and stay up to date.
*EDIT*
Shortly after posting the original post #blackstarfriday continued as Black Star put up the Oh No produced “You Already Knew” for free download. They also announced there’s an Aretha Franklin tribute mixtape coming up fittingly titled “Black Star Aretha”. Get the track at Black Star Hub.

Go and check it out right NOW, right HERE..
We all remember “Timeless: The Composer / Arranger Series” that Mochilla brought us a while ago. A few days ago the remixed EP came out containing interesting remixes from Georgia Anne Muldrow, King Britt and Jneiro Jarel. You can either buy a vinyl copy over at the Mochilla shop or go visit .

Here’s a little something I came across on Soundcloud and thought I should share with you guys. Cazeaux O.S.L.O. dropped this “No Need To Stress” jam and here’s the 411.
In 2008 A few creative partners from NY traveled to Pittsburgh to run a few workshops with several talented local artists and youth. The after hour sessions yielded some unforgettable moments that I had the good sense to hold onto and make something with it this afternoon.

This man has kept hundreds of thousands of hiphop fans waiting and anticipating for years already and has yet to release an official project. It don’t matter though because Jay Electronica just dropped a new video via Okayplayer. The “Dimethyltryptamine” vid was shot in Kathmandu Nepal in the fall of 2009 and was directed by Jason Goldwatch and filmed by Decon. All this over Dilla’s “Phantom of the Synths”…just check this.
Yes..I know Dilla month is over..and we heard way too many weak Dilla remixes/ tributes. But must say Melbourne’s M-Phazes turned “Slum Village – Raise It Up” into something new just using the drum pattern and his own westcoast feel. RAISE IT UP for the J Dilla Foundation!!

Another variation from Mar has landed in our inbox. This time paying homage to Dilla Dawg (R.I.P.). This “Fantastic Vol. 2″ re-imagination is available as a free download on Mar’s Bandcamp page. Also heard him saying he was working on an Oddisee variation so keep an ear out for that.

Today would’ve been Dilla‘s birthday and it’s hard to imagine it has been almost five years already since his passing? Still Dilla‘s legacy lives on in many ways. Not only did B.Kyle release his “Still Shining” documentary…there’s more. Ma Dukes and The J Dilla Foundation recently announced the winner of ‘The International J Dilla Tribute Art Contest’. NY artist Joe Buck won the contest with his winning “J Dilla the SpeciaLIST” design. This signed, limited edition print, as well as special lithograph poster and t-shirt are exclusively available for sale at www.art4dilla.com. All proceeds will be donated to The J Dilla Foundation to help fund their ongoing programs.
Last, but not least all Dutch Dilla heads are welcome to join us at the “Dilla Lives” tribute event (flyer after the jump) at the Bitterzoet in Amsterdam this Sunday. DJ’s Turne, FS Green, SirOJ and Deluge (initiator) will be playing Dilla minded music all through the night and of course all proceeds go to the J Dilla Foundation as well. Raise it up!
B.Kyle released his remembrance piece as a tribute to the memory and legacy of J.Dilla. This incredible “Still Shining” documentary was created in 2006 and was released on Dilla’s birthday…which would’ve been today. Happy b-day dawg..
Medicine Show returns in a big way, with a 28-track hip-hop album of Madlib collabs. Included is Supreme Team (with Karriem Riggins) and Jaylib with a previously unreleased track from Madlib & Dilla’s never-finished second album. Visit the Stones Throw website for more info.
