The following footage was recorded during the free performance that the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble hosted in Los Angeles recently, featuring some of today’s brightest talent. You’ve probably seen the video with Bilal already and now get ready for another amazing piece of music. This time around, check out the video from the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble featuring LA based and Brainfeeder master-mind, Flying Lotus. Alongside the all-star cast of musicians, enjoy everyone doing a rendition of “Drips” from Flying Lotus’s recently released album “Cosmogramma” and “Take Notice” an arrangement of a J Dilla original from his “Ruff Draft” EP. The audio portion of “Drips/Take Notice” is also available for free mp3 download via Miguel Atwood-Ferguson’s Bandcamp page.

I heard this track a while ago on Gilles Petersons Worldwide show with Robert Glasperand Bilal. Even searched for it a while, but never found it. Thanks to DJ Rahdu I finally got my hands on the song. Robert Glasper will release an outtake compilation soon. Can’t wait for that to drop since “Double Booked” is one of my favorite 2009 albums. As you might already know Glasper is a big dilla fan, and this new track is another Dilla tribute. The track featuresZynzelay, and is a rework of Busta’s “Show me what you got” where dilla sampled Stereolab “Come and play in the milky night”. If you want more of this buy “Double Booked” on

“Untitled/Fantastic” is the emotional hub of Suite for Ma Dukes. When Mochilla/VTech screened the film in Detroit last week somebody shouted out ,“Now that’s what I’m talking about…”
If Suite for Ma Dukes has unlocked the emotional power of Dilla’s music, Untitled/Fantastic is the key. Here it is, the last offering from the three DVD set. To see the rest, you’ll have to purchase them HERE (which is a must for any music lover and well worth the cash).

Our second day here at the Red Bull Music Academy started with an insightful lecture with Dutch DJ/producerMartyn. None other than Benji B asked Martyn about his musical roots, his inspiration and his way of creating his significant sound. We also saw a chance to interact with some of the participants such as Swede:art, Kidkanevil & Manzilla (Electric Wire Hustle) and get their take on their time at the RBMA. Ex-participant Oddisee stopped by to check out the new talent and will be blessing some of the material made in the past couple of days. We received a preview of a track that 7 of the participants worked on with Hudson Mohawke and got word that HudMo will be back later this week for more sessions. The evening was reserved for a live performance by a number of participants at Queen of Hoxton. While we’re posting this Space Dimension Controller, Nando Pro, Ross McHenry & Thompson are having a private little party in the lobby with Space’s 40 records he just got as a present. We’ve never heard Dilla’s beats bang as much as they do over this Genelec soundsystem.
My man Mark de Clive-Lowe just hit me up with this IG Culture exclusive for y’all to enjoy! Fresh off IG’s desk comes this wicked remix of Slum Village’s “Get Dis Money”. Now I’m a big big SV head and Fantastic Vol. 2 is really sacred to me but IG did the damn thing. And while we’re at it, make sure you check out IG’s“Holly Roller” radio show over on Spine Magazine with lots of nice tunes. Thanks to Mashi for this one!

Today is the 4th anniversary of Dilla’s untimely passing. At Mochilla, they’ve spent the past year working on A Suite for Ma Dukes. Until now they only released videos of entirely instrumental pieces, but today – in homage to the man responsible for all this – they have released the first vocal performance from SFMD. Detroit singer Dwele sang the classic “Angel” that night without rehearsal, but with Miguel Atwood-Furguson‘s beautiful arrangements. Shout out to V-Tech, B+ and J.Kim.
Like we told ya’ll last week, Stüssyand Stones Throw Records are releasing a tribute shirt in memoriam of Dilla. You already know the when and where if you’re a frequent visitor, so here’s something you didn’t know. The shirt was officially licensed by the J Dilla Estate and in case you are in Amsterdam this Saturday, we urge you to drop by ‘Café de Duivel’ for the Stüssy x Dilla Tribute Night. DJ’s FS Green, Turne, SP and Edzon will be spinning the illest of the illest in honor of the late J Dilla. Major props to the guys at Patta for puting this whole thing together by the way.
Even better news is that we get to give away 10 of these shirts for FREE! Unfortunately this contest is for our Dutch visitors only, seeing the winner has to pick up the shirt at the Precinct 5 store personally. To win you will need to answer the question below and email the answer to contest[@]moovmnt.com. Please include your full name, your shirt size (s through xl) and whether you prefer a white or black one. Winners will be contacted on Friday. So good luck and see you Saturday!
