Nov 21

You might have noticed that BBE has been releasing some real quality compilations lately. One I’ve been looking forward to is this new DJ Spinna presents: The Boogie Back” album that will be out November 24th. We uploaded the “Boogie Bundle Mix” to our Mixcloud and just like the “Strange Breaks & Mr. Thing Vol. II” you can give it a listen, before you decide to purchase it HERE. Here’s what BBE had to say about the compilation…

A cornerstone of Hip-Hop’s late 90′s indie-uprise, DJ Spinna made much of his first impression on listeners as the musical background of his group The Jigmastas (having released an impressive slew of 12″ singles on his then self-run label Beyond Real during this time) as well as providing the canvas for an array of that era’s lyrical giants. As an emcee in New York City, if you didn’t have a Spinna production under your belt, well, you just hadn’t accomplished all there was to accomplish. Everyone from Mos Def, Talib Kweli to Pharaohe Monch boasted Spinna beats to prove their worth to the scene. At the height of indie-kingpin Rawkus Records heyday, Spinna was in demand, also churning out timeless classics of the era from the likes of J-Live, Mr. Complex and The Polyrhythm Addicts (his all-too-brief collabo-group with Apani B., Shaabam Sadeeq and Complex). Spinna is back with his latest foray into the world of boogie.

sonic_smash

It’s here! Been waiting for this one for a while now and I have to say it’s nice. DJ Spinna‘s return was highly enticipated by me eversince I met him last year at Black Soil. He was telling me he was coming back with another hiphop album and here it is. I suggest you take a minute to relax, pop the “Sonic Smash” album in your sound system and let it take you there. It has some great featuring artists like Phonte, Yazarah, Shabaam Sahdeeq, John Robinson and Erik Rico on there and “More Colors” featuring Elzi from Slum Village is definetely one of the dopest joints on there. The sample really takes me back to: That’s how it was, this is how it is, you gotta keep it real when you deal with them Brooklyn kids. Oh you know you want to BUY the album via iTunes…so just do so.

fresh-spinna

We just got word that both DJ Spinna‘s “Sonic Smash” album and Fresh Daily‘s “Fresh Daily is the Gorgeous Killer in Crimes of Passion” album, have been pushed back. Get Spinna’s album July 21st and Daily’s album August 13th. To make up for this, we are leaking this Fresh Daily joint produced by DJ Spinna entitled “Gotta Go” that isn’t on either of their albums. As if this wasn’t enough we decided to share this killer track from Spinna’s upcoming album. “Still Golden” features Tiye Phoenix and is one of the hottest tracks on Sonic Smash in my opinion. Massive thanks to Jonathan and High Water Music

Pseudo Slang, a Buffalo, New York based hip-hop duo comprised of rapper Emcee Sick, of the crewXtracts Of Slang, and producer Tone Atlas, of the crew Pseudo Intellectuals, are proud to announce the release of their new studio LPBroke & Copasetic” - the album’s lead single – features R&B/new soul songstress Vinia Mojica whom we all have been waiting for to drop something new ever since her “Black & Blue” bootleg (with productions by Hi-Tek, DJ Spinna & Ge-0logy). Their first single sounds like hiphop used to sound when I was still into vinyl. I guess that’s a big compliment coming from me nowadays so ya’ll keep an eye out for Pseudo Slang’s new album “We’ll Keep Looking” when it drops June 2nd via Fat Beats Records.
