Brooklyn-based Machinedrum is hard to describe and ranges from four to the floor electronic music with heavy synths to funky soulfull beats that Jesse Boykins can sing to. On his new “Many Faces” EP, which is being released through LuckyMe, he shows a side that I personally haven’t seen/heard before. I only heard a few songs from Jesse’s upcoming album, but never knew this producer was so versatile. Perhaps it’s best described as innovative club music, but you have to be open to new sounds and harmonies.
There’s a limited vinyl edition (100 copies) including a Tee + cassette tape + 12-inch EP (more info soon). All you digital heads, please visit to get your freak on.

Welsh production crew Darkhouse Family aka Don Leisure and Metabeats drop their debut “Family Trees” EP via Fat City. Heavy synth-work, syrupy melodies, processed sample snippets is what you can expect. You all must know about that banger “Stay Blazed” as featured on the Producer #2 album and on “Mein Atari” they asked Mr. Dibiase to flip the shit out of it in his very own style. Also loving the Bonus Digital Cut “Mediation” which has that Darkhouse flava of dubwise-blunted Hip Hop. Check out the snippets and buy if you like what you hear!

Funkineven is on some straight up Future Funk with his latest 12″ entitled “She’s Acid”. Really great music coming out of the Eglo camp lately and with this being their 8th release I think congratz are in order. Also congratz to Steve for getting signed to Hyperdub recently. The flipside has “Must Move” on it which is more of a psyched out electronic eighties tune if you ask me. Head over to Rush Hour to purchase the vinyl, because the A-side alone is well worth the money!

Our friends at Skip Intro contacted us with some nice inside info about a producer who is no stranger to Moovmnt. We wanted to shine some more light on this beat maker and the fact he’ll be performing in Amsterdam…so be prepaired to be enlightened.
Born in Chile and now living in both Berlin and London, fLako is one of Europe’s most promising producers at this moment. Whoever you ask within the electronic/beat world will definetely agree. He contributed the banging “Inside” to UpMyAlley‘s “Beatnicks Vol.2 Sampler” and drew worldwide attention on his production skills in 2008/2009 with his “Vortex Cookies Remix”, a track that made any head at any venue in any city in Europe bang like crazy, and has been championed by beat/dubstep pioneers such as Gaslamp Killer, HudMo, Jay Scarlett and others.
fLako who is a close member of the UpMyAlley family hasn’t been playing his trademark set of dancefloor killers live that often, being quite selective in what gigs to play.. So far only Vilnius, Cologne, Vienna and London had the honour of having this guy smashing things to bits&pieces live. Amsterdam is next on the map, don’t miss out on this one. November 13th fLako will make you spill your beer, because you won’t be able to stand still once he starts off! Come witness this all and watch fLako kill it live during SKIP INTRO at the Flexbar in Amsterdam. Our buddy Full Crate will be rocking the party as supportive DJ together with Ebokai, O.Boogie & Shady. Also make sure to check out Skip Intro #5, featuring some of fLako’s joints next to other bassheavy hitters.

Last year me and Nev where at the Black Soil movie festival in Rotterdam when we briefly met DJ Spinna. He is a humbling example of what it takes to truly succeed within the framework of multiple fields. A steadfast work ethic, an obsessively extensive vinyl library and the willingness to pursue the full extents of his roots (Funk, Soul and Jazz), foundation (Hip-Hop) and future (Electronic/Dance music) with no restraints.
Now I’ve always been a big Spinna fan and he’s in my top 5 of best hiphop producers ever. Maybe some remember Spinna from when he teamed up with Kriminul to form the Jigmastas. Others might have been deep into the Beyond Real Experiences or his Here To There album. The last couple of years Spinna has been producing a lot of dance music, but you might have recognized his sound on Eric Roberson‘s Butterfly Girl.
Anyways…I asked the good man what 2009 would bring and he told me he was working on The Beyond Real Experience Vol. 3! I can’t wait to hear a whole new album, but luckily I stumbled upon this Spinna remix he did for Panacea. To be honest I only like how Flashback To Stardom was produced and it gives me some hope for future Spinna releases. I really missed his sound a lot and hope he’ll make a big comeback this year.
