Oh snap! I thought DJ Mitsu The Beats‘ new “Beat Installments” project was coming out later this month, but it turns out is was released last week on Jazzy Sport. Here we have a very nice collection of instrumental tracks ranging from hip hop beats to soulful house music. Don’t sleep on this one, cuz there’s a few gems in here you shouldn’t be sleeping on! You might have heard me playing a joint of this album on our latest “Glimmering Fraction” mix and in case you were wondering, this albums is available on .

For this weeks Slept on Sunday I decided to go back a few months instead of years. Personally I was a little late with Ski Beatz‘ “24 Hour Karate School Presents: Twilight” and decided not to post it. A few months later, I have to admit that there are a couple of songs on this album that deserve extra attention. A favorite of ours is “Fly By” featuring Curren$y, but we can’t forget about tracks like “Living It Up” with that extra thick bassline courtesy of Brady Watt.

Melbourne’s Illy & M-Phazes will be reworking well known songs from all corners of the music spectrum. Each of these “Friday Flips” will be built from songs suggested by the audience. You will be directly involved in the process of creation and each person who’s suggestion gets flipped wins some Illy merchandise. Very dope initiative, simply because the way Phazes flips some cheesy sounding Dubstep song by Skrillex called “Rock ‘N’ Roll” is just bananas. Oh go ahead and snatch that free download while it’s still available.

One of the many things we learned from our survey is that quite a few visitors would love more high quality downloads. It’s no coincidence that our DJ buddies have been nagging us about this Slakah The Beatchild song for the past weeks. We hit up Slakah and he decided to give away a DJ pack of “Wanna Do” including an instrumental and acapella version (in WAV format) as a free download. We’re getting ready for “Soul Movements” Vol. 2 to hit the streets this summer.

Hiatus Kaiyote is a band of Melbourne’s underground. The group consists of singer Nai Palm, keyboardist Simon Mavin, bass player Paul Bender and drummer Perrin Moss. Their sound is best described as futuristic live soul music, but at times containing a little mysterious twist. Their debut album is entitled “Tawk Tomahawk” and released earlier this month. It’s available on their Bandcamp page, so check them out.

Phontigga gets a little help from ma dukes in the official video for “The Life Of Kings”. This one is of the “Charity Starts At Home” album and features Big K.R.I.T., Evidence and 9th Wonder on the beat.
Never heard of Rashad nor Confidence before, but Evil Needle did a nice little ‘golden era’ sounding remix for their “The City” joint. Apparently there’s a remix contest going on as we speak (submissions due April 30th), but more info on that over at 2dopeboyz. Free download of Floran’s remix is available right now, right HERE!

Thought about these Black Spade outtakes while I was listening to the new Hawthorne Headhunters album. I don’t have any additional information about these outtakes from Black Spade’s debut album “To Serve With Love”. So just enjoy this and make sure you buy the new Hawthorne Headhunters album “Myriad Of Now” on .

Toronto rapper D.O. (aka Defy the Odds) released his debut album, “The Northstarr”, back in 2007. Now there’s a few songs on there with fellow CanadianSlakah The Beatchild and “No Matter What” is definitely a slept on gem. Been bumping this for a few years, but on a Sunday like this one we have to share and care. In case you’re looking to buy some of this, make you way over to .
A promise is a promise is a promise! It’s that time of the week again and I’m not talking about church. The third consecutive Slept on Sundays is a fact after a long leave of absence. Today we have an oldie from Innerzone Orchestra featuring Paul Randolph. Their version of “People Make The World Go Round” came out around 2000 on Planet E and contained a few remixes from J88, Ta’Raach and Kenny Dixon Jr. We thought we’d share the J88 remix with you since it’s down right nasty!
