Some Scratcha Madness:
If it hadn’t been for “Just Vybe” featuring the lovely miss Fatima, I probably would’ve never heard of UK Funky man DVA. Recently he announced his debut album, “Pretty Ugly”, is coming out in 2012 on Hyperdub Records, but before the end of the year he’ll be releasing a 12″ first. It will contain “Madness” featuring Vikter Duplaix (plus an instrumental version) and “Polyphonic Dreams” on the flipside. Also peep the video or pre-order at Rush Hour.

Rinse FM’s breakfast show host, DVA is a producer with a unique take on the UK Funky bug. This time he teamed up with Eglo’s songstress Fatima on a rework from his first release “Natty”. Available October 4th on Hyperdub.

As Eglo records reaches it’s 10th release, West London’s Funkineven releases his third record already. On one side we have “Heartpound” which really is a tune for the dancefloor, while on the other side “Another Space” reminds me a bit of some early rave shit from back in the days. Steve has been busy remixing for Hyperdub artist Ikonika while at the same time practicing as part of Fatima‘s live band. Who made their debut appearance for Deviation at Fabric recently, supporting Bilal. Pictures of which can be found HERE.

Funkineven is on some straight up Future Funk with his latest 12″ entitled “She’s Acid”. Really great music coming out of the Eglo camp lately and with this being their 8th release I think congratz are in order. Also congratz to Steve for getting signed to Hyperdub recently. The flipside has “Must Move” on it which is more of a psyched out electronic eighties tune if you ask me. Head over to Rush Hour to purchase the vinyl, because the A-side alone is well worth the money!

In just two more weeks the third installment of the L.A. Series drops. This time you get Ras G & The Afrikan Space Program (Poobah) and Samiyam (Brainfeeder/Hyperdub) on the same EP. Shout out to Olan and the other at All City Records for providing us with a shitload of music these past few months. Our friends at RBMA dropped this new joint “Fishsticks” (low-res) today, so we decided to share it as well. My favourite joint is “Space” by Sam so pre-order the EP at Rush Hour if you want the whole shebang..

Earlier this month, Hyperdub reported the initial details of the release, which confirmed a run of five weekly twelve-inch samplers containing exclusive tracks leading up to the full CD release. Joker, Martyn, Cooly G, Flying Lotus, Samiyam, Mala, Ikonika and more are contributing fresh material for the vinyl releases, and all of these tracks will be compiled on the first of 5‘s two CDs. Some exclusive cuts will also be on the first disc’s tracklist, with King Midas Sound and Ikonika offering new material, while the long-awaited minimal melodics of Darkstar’s “Aidy’s Girl Is A Computer” will finally see a release. That said, arguably the hottest talking point of the CD is the appearance of the first new solo material from Burial since his Untrue album dropped in 2007. The second disc will act as a “best of” selection, compiling tried-and-tested anthems from the likes of Kode9, Joker and Zomby, and will also mark the first time that Burial’s “South London Boroughs” will be available on CD. Imma freak, he a freak, you a freak…everybody freak! Damn this is definetely gonna be the club banger for July. Gonna push this one so hard even if I have to hand out copies to all the best local DJ’s myself. You all know Mark Pritchard and the genius producer they call Om’Mas Keith (from SA-RA Creative Partners). These two gentleman recorded “Wind It Up” at Red Bull Music Academy’s A Class Of Its Own in cologne 2007. Mike confirmed it will be released as a 12inch on Hyperdub records and allthough the audio quality isn’t that high this stream does keep you on point for the official release which we are all going to buy off course. Not sure about the release date, but probably July-ish. The release will have a Freak Mix and instrumental version on it so you know what it is son.

2009 finds Hyperdub marking their fifth anniversary, and the first of many astonishing outings lined up to celebrate the half-decade is delivered by prodigious Bristolian synth wizard Joker, dropping his debut release on the label, backed by the talk-box sleeze of Danish producers 2000F & J Kamata. Yet another in Hyperdub’s series of tunes putting the fun firmly back into synthesizers. Already well known for bombs like ‘Gullybrook Lane’, ‘Hollybrook Park’ and his recent epic ‘Play Doe’ with Rustie, Joker’s ‘Digidesign’ staggers in with a laid back groove and twisted bass synth, but it’s all about the infectious melody in the middle. On the flip, 2000f & J Kamata’s anticipated ‘You Don’t Know What Love Is’ opens up a 1985 vintage can of robofunk R&B earworms that will eat your audio nerves alive! Get it now at Rushhour..

Seriously good 4 track 12″ from Samiyam on the brilliant Hyperdub label…
Hyperdub’s first US signing, and first hip hop tempo release comes from Flying Lotus sidekick, straight out of LA, Samiyam. With colab releases with Flylo under the name FLYamSAM, a recent selfmade CD ‘Rap Beats’, and a stunning, recent remix for Pattie Blingh for Ramp Recordings, Samiyam is rising fast. All the tunes on the Return E.P. carry Samiyam’s signature synth sound, melancholy melodies, and off-kilter, post-Dilla funk that will make you bump, your brain tingle, while you are simultaneously crying your eyes out. This style is perfected on the track ‘Return’ which has been featured in many a Flylo mix from the last couple of years, and the ultra-lazy grooves of the 8-bit ‘Trick Platform’ which plugs in nicely to recent Hyperdub releases from Quarta 330, Ikonika, Zomby and Rustie. On the flip, ‘Moon Shoes’ and ‘Cheesecake Backslap’, the drums get turned up, and the quantize function thrown out the window. Loose, lop-sided but totally funktional, this release brings a bit of smoggy, toxic West Coast sunshine to stiff old, gloomy UK. Get it on Rushhour. And the lost Luckiest Charm Flylo track.
