Freddie’s full-length “Midway” album will be released this summer in the States and Japan and I have to admit “A.M.” sounds pretty decent. At times it even reminds me a bit of some Kev Brown productions. I’m curious what “Midway” will sound like and what vocalists he’ll be working with.

Wonderful Noise…for some a steady supplier of good music and for others a distant record label somewhere in Japan. Since I stumbled onto some upcoming goodies to be released in the near future, I decided to share some of this wonderful noise with you guys. The first being a 12″ by Opensouls featuring Ladi 6 called “Sweetlove” containing a bad ass Mabanua remix (one of Japans sickest upcoming producers). The original was produced by Julien Dyne and what a coincidence…he’s on the next wonderful project as well.

Erik L and Stray team up to form the duo Favorite Flava and it is this group that I was talking about. “LOVE” is the a-side of this upcoming 12″ and Julien Dyne delivers one heck of a remix. Watch for this to drop June 1st and this summer we can expect their “Different Phase” album.

Now this is one of those albums that I’ve really been looking forward to hear. Straight from Japan it’s Gagle that is about to release their epic “Slow But Steady” album on Jazzy Sport records September 16th. No full review yet, but just some snippets to keep ya’ll hungry. Samon Kawamura has finished his work on Unfold, his second soloalbum, within a short year Unfold, the successor of Translations (Samon ´s debut-album released on Nesola in the middle of 2007), came into existence. The most obvious difference in comparison with its predecessor is the participation of vocalists/rappers, whose selection nearly seems to follow a concept.
With Madlib´ s brother OH NO and Aloe Blacc two Stonesthrow-artists stood in front of the mic. The contributions of Om’Mas Keith (SA-RA Creative Partners) and the producing MC Ta’Raach fit in the picture as well with regard to the creative backgrounds and interests, the whole thing being rounded out by Kev Brown from the Jazzy Jeff-camp and Laura López Castro.

With Unfold there nearly is a balance between songs with and without vocals. The message being articulated by the lyrical contributions to the songs is basically characterized by passion for the art form and some kind of authentic and serious contemplation on the subject matter.
