I heard this track a while ago on Gilles Petersons Worldwide show with Robert Glasperand Bilal. Even searched for it a while, but never found it. Thanks to DJ Rahdu I finally got my hands on the song. Robert Glasper will release an outtake compilation soon. Can’t wait for that to drop since “Double Booked” is one of my favorite 2009 albums. As you might already know Glasper is a big dilla fan, and this new track is another Dilla tribute. The track featuresZynzelay, and is a rework of Busta’s “Show me what you got” where dilla sampled Stereolab “Come and play in the milky night”. If you want more of this buy “Double Booked” on

“Untitled/Fantastic” is the emotional hub of Suite for Ma Dukes. When Mochilla/VTech screened the film in Detroit last week somebody shouted out ,“Now that’s what I’m talking about…”
If Suite for Ma Dukes has unlocked the emotional power of Dilla’s music, Untitled/Fantastic is the key. Here it is, the last offering from the three DVD set. To see the rest, you’ll have to purchase them HERE (which is a must for any music lover and well worth the cash).

Our buddies over at Stones Throw teamed up with Serato and the J Dilla Estate for this official J Dilla Serato release, “Donut Shop”. This is 2 discs with six J Dilla tracks, 2 sides with Serato Control Tone (for use with Serato Scratch Live DJ software), and 2 donut slipmats in a package designed by Studio No.1. This will be released May 10th (the day after Mother’s day) and is available for pre-order now.
The J Dilla tracks consist of three previously unreleased instrumentals selected by J.Rocc from the Dilla archives – “Safety Dance”, “Sycamore”, “Bars & Twists” – and three unreleased instrumental versions of Dilla’s production for Mos Def, Q-Tip and Busta Rhymes, each remastered by Elysian Masters who mixed and mastered J Dilla’s Donuts, The Shining and Ruff Draft albums.

Today is the 4th anniversary of Dilla’s untimely passing. At Mochilla, they’ve spent the past year working on A Suite for Ma Dukes. Until now they only released videos of entirely instrumental pieces, but today – in homage to the man responsible for all this – they have released the first vocal performance from SFMD. Detroit singer Dwele sang the classic “Angel” that night without rehearsal, but with Miguel Atwood-Furguson’s beautiful arrangements. Shout out to V-Tech, B+ and J.Kim.

J Rocc (third member of Jaylib so to speak), put together this mixtape of Dilla, Madlib and Jaylib songs, as well as some of their sources, essentially telling the story of this group. Stones Throw had some promo copies of this CD floating around for a while that year, then took the Jaylib section and pressed it on a 45, which was released as the bonus 45 with “Champion Sound”. Both the CD and 45 are long out of stock. The photos were taken by B+ of Madlib in his studio in L.A. and Dilla in his in Detroit.

On March 10th I was lucky enough to be able to sit down with Q-Tip (pictured above with Nicky of HEAVy after both their shows in Paradiso, Amsterdam) for about 30 minutes and ask him some of the many questions I’ve had for years as a real A Tribe Called Quest fanatic. My original reason for wanting to interview him was to hear his side of the story on the “Got Til It’s Gone” situation that Dilla shed light on in the 2003 Dustbustersaudio interview. I intended to make it an audio interview too, but the audio didn’t turn out too good hence the transcript. Check it out after the jump.
