Jill Scott‘s “From The Vault” Vol. 1 is a compilation album that drops Tuesday on Hidden Beach Recordings. Last October miss Scott left the label, breaching her six-album contract and owed millions of dollars in damages. This resulted in plans for this album series of her previously unreleased songs recorded for the label. Early sneak peak for you nu soul lovers.

Miss Jill Scott has returned with her new “The Light of The Sun” album. Don’t know what to think about it really, but I might be biased. My expectations are pretty high when it comes to amazing Nu Soul artists miss Scott. There’s honestly one song that grabbed me and for this reason I decided to post it. Give the album a listen for yourself, because I bet there’s a lot of you who are going to love it. It’s available via .

Some of you might have slept on the “Soul Mixtape” by DJ Jazzy Jeff from 4 years ago. For those that did we have a crazy song we had to share with soul singer V who recently released his second album. His first album – The Revelation Is Now Televised – is a true masterpiece and was produced by Jazzy Jeff and Pete Kuzma (Jill Scott’s band leader). To be perfectly honest V’s latest album is a bit of a disappointment and it doesn’t come close to the first BBE release.

Steven Lopez Launches The After Midnight Series – First Installment Features Erykah Badu!
Respected Los Angeles artist Steven Lopez will begin work on his latest piece in the “After Midnight Series” featuring soul goddess Erykah Badu. The After Midnight Series is a personal excursion for Steven to combine his two passions, music and art. It is this combination that has inspired the After Midnight Series and in the process brought Steven together with such musical greats as Chaka Kahn, Sade Adu, Aretha Franklin, India Arie, Jill Scott and his first inspiration into the After Midnight Series, Erykah Badu. Steven researches each artist’s photo history, discography, and live performances to begin the creative process. Once versed visually and aurally, Steven selects a favorite and many times inspirational song to focus on and begin the painting process. His manner of painting synergistically with music is heavily influenced and constantly nurtured at the world famous Mint Club in Los Angeles where he performs his craft in front of a live jazz audience regularly. Jazz, soul, funk, and hip hop are all ingrained into Steven’s artistic style beginning with his days as a respected graffiti artist and to his current exploits as a contemporary artist with a unique vision. Steven works with many of the top agencies, brands, and record labels including Reebok, Nestle, X Games, Coachella, Vans, the United Way, Global Inheritance, and Spy Optics among others. His art has also been featured on such networks as BBC, The Discovery Channel and FUEL TV among others. Steven is excited and honored to work with Erykah Badu, saying “Erykah is one of my favorite artists of all time and I’ve been looking forward to interpreting her music since I saw her perform in 2005 during the “Sugar Water” tour stop at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles.”The After Midnight Series will include 100 limited edition giclee prints signed by both Steven and Erykah. The signing will take place on March 24th in Badu’s home town of Dallas. They will be available for purchase, Midnight April 15th exclusively through www.aftermidnightsoul.com.
A portion of proceeds will be donated to Badu’s charity organization, Beautiful Love Incorporated Non Profit Development — or B.L.I.N.D. Beautiful Love Inc. was established in 1997 and provides community-driven development for inner-city youth through music, dance, theater and visual arts.

A unique, historic festival! The first edition of the North Sea Jazz Festival took place in 1976 in the Nederlands Congresgebouw in The Hague. Some numbers in those early days: six venues, three hundred artists and about nine thousand visitors. In this very first festival year internationally renowned jazz legends performed, such as Sarah Vaughan, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz, as well as most Dutch avant-garde artists.
In the intervening years, the North Sea Jazz Festival has developed into a major international jazz event. Over the years the numbers have increased to: fifteen venues, approximately thirteen hundred artists and a visitors number that varies between sixty-five thousand and seventy thousand every year. Since 2006 the festival has found a new and more spacious location: Ahoy Rotterdam.
North Sea Jazz is known all over the world because of the many musical genres it has to offer, ranging from traditional New Orleans jazz, swing, bop, free jazz, fusion, avant-garde jazz and electronic jazz; to blues, gospel, funk, soul, R&B, hip hop, world beat and Latin.
