VTech is premiering the first official music video off of Bilal‘s new album “Airtight’s Revenge” (Plug Research), directed and edited by Michael Sterling Eaton. In case you haven’t listened to the new album yet, I suggest you head on over to and give it an intense listen.
After all these years the wait is almost over! Bilal is back with a whole new style of album entitled “Airtight’s Revenge” which you’ll either love or hate. One of my favorite producers at the moment, Nottz stepped up to produce “Free” which is not on the album by the way. This FREE download was brough to you by the good folks over at Plug Research and be on the look out for “Airtight’s Revenge” to drop September 14th! We might have something special coming up soon this summer, but more on that later. Shout out to JKim and Rush Hour..

“Untitled/Fantastic” is the emotional hub of Suite for Ma Dukes. When Mochilla/VTech screened the film in Detroit last week somebody shouted out ,“Now that’s what I’m talking about…”
If Suite for Ma Dukes has unlocked the emotional power of Dilla’s music, Untitled/Fantastic is the key. Here it is, the last offering from the three DVD set. To see the rest, you’ll have to purchase them HERE (which is a must for any music lover and well worth the cash).

Cali-based DJ Seano was hanging out with a few buddies (Cook Classics, JKim, Inka One and Greg The Dude) while the room filled with smoke. Meanwhile Seano did a 1-take mix and this is the result. This is some Jazz/Breaks/Funk shit with a lot of samples/originals. It was aired on a local radio station (Soundwaves Radio) and Seano wanted to share it with anybody who might be interested. Although it’s not your avarage Moovmnt post, it’s the foundation of a lot of modern day music and we grew up on this shit. So we thought you’d might like something slighty different for a change. Later today we’ll be dropping a little mix of our own, so we won’t leave you hungry while we’ll be on our way to London. RBMA here we come..
Guess there is no need to introduce Blu, Exile & Fashawn. But just wanted to let you know that their on a Europe Tour right now, so if their in your neighbourhood make sure you get some tickets to see the show. They will perform in my hometown Rotterdam this sunday, and as a promo for the tour the homies Sunan and Grandmaster Lee AKA The Superblenders made this mix. Nice way to get warmed up for the show. Today is the 4th anniversary of Dilla’s untimely passing. At Mochilla, they’ve spent the past year working on A Suite for Ma Dukes. Until now they only released videos of entirely instrumental pieces, but today – in homage to the man responsible for all this – they have released the first vocal performance from SFMD. Detroit singer Dwele sang the classic “Angel” that night without rehearsal, but with Miguel Atwood-Furguson‘s beautiful arrangements. Shout out to V-Tech, B+ and J.Kim.
Jonathan Kim shot this video while he was at sound check for his gig at the Elbo Room in San Francisco with funky worm Exile this past week. As they came into the venue, he saw Exile and Teeko jamming out on their respective equipment, and he was impressed to say the least. Teeko has been making some noise with his group F.A.M.E. as well as recently working with Mark Ronson in NY for his upcoming album. Exile is coming with his “Radio Remix” album so keep an eye out for that. Great to see two artists come together, and create some amazing music together.
In 2009, VTech and Mochilla put on a 3 part event series entitled “Timeless,” showcasing The Suite for Ma Dukes orchestra, Mulatu Astatke, and Arthur Verocai, and March 2010, they will be releasing a limited edition box set DVD of each event, w/ extra behind the scenes footage, poster, exclusive music, full liner notes, etc. Although the Suite for Ma Dukes event maybe most relevant and of interest, w/ it’s features from Posdnuos (De La Soul), Dwele, Bilal, Talib Kweli, Common, Karriem Riggins, and many others, all 3 events help create a bridge between producer/arrangers of yesteryear to the modern day hip hop producer.
The full press release is below, and today, I’m happy to share an exclusive video and audio track from the Suite for Ma Dukes event, mixed and mastered by legendary Grammy award-winning producer/mixer Bob Power, best known for his work with De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, D’Angelo, Badu, and many more. Also, this is the first time folks can see the artwork and packaging for the box set DVD.
Enjoy Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and the Suite for Ma Dukes orchestra in their version of “Take Notice” from J Dilla’s highly acclaimed Ruff Draft EP. Thank to JKim..
