Yesterday I opened my eyes and noticed I had been blind to certain facts of life. Coincidentally yU just happened to have released his new “The Earn” album containing this joint called “Blind” produced by Kev Brown. I found this song to be very fitting to my own situation and am happy to tell you it is being given away as a free download on the Mello Music Group Bandcamp page. The rest of the album is now available via so check peep that one if you like what you’re hearing.

Doing it in the park, doing it after dark oh yeah. So Oddisee‘s latest edition of what you’ve been missing is called “Rock Creek Park”. Heard a few other songs of the album, but when I heard “Mattered Much” featuring Olivier Daysoul and “Beach Dr.” I was truly impressed. Here’s two of those songs that can only be defined as beautiful. “Mattered Much” was actually not intended for the album, but Oddisee dug it out, realized it was meant to be on there after all and added the vocals to it. In case you were wondering it’s Andy Faus on guitar and Lucan’s Pipkin on strings. Oh and make sure to grab this free download and buy the whole album over at if you like what you’re hearing!

“Clouds” is a 27 track instrumental project from Detroit producer Apollo Brown. While most have come to know Apollo’s production for its smash mouth, head nodding, grime, “Clouds” reveals another aspect of his production ability. “Clouds” is a 52 minute instrumental ride, the perfect backdrop for reflection. Available on Bandcamp and Itunes. MelloMusicGroup.

Miss Georgia Anne Muldrow is back with her latest album “VWETO” (meaning gravity in Swahili). This fully instrumental album shows that Georgia is a true believer of the fOnK and I have to say this sounds totally different from her lats album. Personally she’s got my head nodding to at least half of the album, which is exclusively available via . The first single “fOnkRocker” was made available for free download so pick that on the Mello Music Bandcamp page. Other neckbreakers are “Strike”, “Simply Put” & “If So”. Trust me, you need to end your year buying this!

Last week Trek Life dropped his “Everything Changed Nothing” album and at first I wasn’t really blown away. It took me a while, but after having listened to it a second time I think you all should give it a listen as well. Loving some of those Oddisee productions on there and the fact that OlivierDaySoul is singing on a bunch of songs helps too. Really love the title song and also “I’d Rather Be” is in the top 3. Let me know what you guys think and to purchase a digital copy head on over to

29-year-old beatsmith Apollo Brown reps the D and comes with a very recognizable style on his latest “The Reset” album. In 2009 he won the Detroit Red Bull Big Tune Championships and competed in the national finals. Apollo then signed as a producer with the Mello Music Group last December.
Up till now he has released the “Skilled Trade” (2007) and the “Make Do” (2009) Beat Tapes. Those made collaborations possible with Detroiters Finale, Danny Brown and Kam Moye aka Supastition. On “The Reset” he gets some help from Rapper Big Pooh, Black Milk, Declaime, Buff 1, MED, Grap Luva, John Robinson, Kenn Starr, Oddisee and Diamond District.
There’s definitely some nineties influences to be heard on this album, like “Lower The Boom” getting into that Wu-Tang vibe or “Ghetto Soul Music”. I suggest you give this one a listen and in case you want to BUY it head on over to

The big day is finally here for fans of DMV triumvirate Diamond District. Their debut full-length album, “In The Ruff”, is out today via Mello Music Group. The album, which features two brand new tracks from the group as well as their hard to come by material from a limited release this spring, is available in stores and on iTunes. One of the just-released tracks is “Something For Y’all” produced by Kev Brown. While District member Oddisee produces the vast majority of Diamond District’s songs himself, working with Brown hardly involved leaving the group’s comfort zone. “Working with Kev is honestly keeping it in-house – he founded the Low Budget Crew and gave birth to everything that I’m doing right now. We wanted that signature Kev Brown sound- grimy soul.”
“Something For Y’all” showcases emcees Oddisee, X.O. and yU trading verses, rapping to their audience, and trying to upstage each other. The track has a distinctively old school vibe. This old school spirit is one of the attributes that has made Diamond District’s debut so hotly anticipated. “In The Ruff” is available now as digital download and on CD via Mello Music Group…(via Audible Treats)
