Union, also know as the duo OJ & Gold from Paris, have been on our radar for quite some time. With their latest “Analogtronics” album (which is out as of today) they’ve made their way on to our ‘shit these cats is tight’ list. Just loving that warm spacey electronic hip hop that they do so well. Lots of interesting features on this one too from MF Doom, Talib Kweli, Elzhi, Guilty Simpson, Rapper Big Pooh, Moka Only and more. Now most of you where already aware of the French duo called Union. Eealier this year they came correct with “Wings” featuring Elzhi and they now return with a brand new single and video entitled “Time Leak”. For this one OJ and Gold teams up with Talib Kweli and Sly Johnson to create some nice jazz-minded, electronic hip hop music. Their upcoming album, “Analogtronics” will feature the likes of MF Doom, Guilty Simpson and Elzhi. Out on Fat Beats early next year, but in the meanwhile grab the single over at or look for the triangle shaped 7″ over at Fatbeats. This year’s Red Bull Music Academy is in full effect again. Participants such as Full Crate and Salva are probably having the time of their lives as we speak in Madrid. Yesterday miss Erykah Badu was a guest at the academy and gave a lecture. To give you guys a small preview, check out this teaser video and be on the look out for footage of MF Doom’s lecture as well. More video footage will be shared soon, don’t you worry.

Last year the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble recorded five re-reworkings during one of their many stays in Dublin with Choice Cuts. Hypno-tizing hip-hop, indie, dancepop and afrobeat are the main ingredients for their latest “heritage” EP. They cover Jay Z, Fela, Art Of Noise, Outkast and Madlib & MF Doom. I think the HBE has really outdone themselves this time. My two favs are “Water” and “Spottie”. Grab the latter of the two which was a gift from mark from Choice Cuts. Hurry up and Pre-order this EP over at Rush Hour, cuz this is a limited 12″ release. The artwork kinda reminds me of the that Hidden Strength album, but that’s because of the colours and the pyramid.

For those that don’t know…Arthur Verocai is composer/arranger from Brasil. He has worked with giants as Jorge Ben, Gal Costa and Leny Andrade, but hiphop heads know him for his often sampled (by Ludacris, MF Doom and Little Brother) self-titled solo album. The album came out at the height of the Brasilian dictatorship and was a commercial failure. According to Verocai, he had never played the record, “alive or dead”! His delight at the opportunity to play this music in its complete form can be seen on the Timeless DVD box set (which is f*cking amazing).
This song, “Flying to L.A.” was written specifically for the concert at the Luckman. It starts with open drums by Mamao from the famed Brasilian trio Azymuth, and then goes on a beautiful harmonic journey. Massive props to VTech and Mochilla for this beautiful initiative.
