You might have read that me and Marcelo are currently in L.A. right now and chilling at Venice Beach at the moment with my man Anthony Valadez. First thing we did when we got here was go to the Timeless show with Arthur Verocai and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson show. Eventhough we were tired as f*ck and almost fell asleep (cuz of the jetlag), we enjoyed the show tremendously though.

I took some random shots (check them after the jump) of what we’ve been up to, so I hope you like them. We visited Samiyam at his house and hung out for a bit, whilst sippin’ on some coconut juice with chunks in it. He has some sick ass shirts, which we will might be selling in the near future as well. Heard some dope new stuff of his upcoming album that’s dropping on Brainfeeder and some other remixes he did. Also we met the homie I-Ced, AFTA-1 and the ever so beautiful Nikko Grey. Loved watching her perform live tonight and looking forward to that project she was talking about with AFTA-1.
Hope to be able to post some more stuff on here later this week so stay tuned. Do-Over, Funkmosphere, Low End Theory and more coming up. Continue reading »
“Untitled/Fantastic” is the emotional hub of Suite for Ma Dukes. When Mochilla/VTech screened the film in Detroit last week somebody shouted out ,“Now that’s what I’m talking about…”
If Suite for Ma Dukes has unlocked the emotional power of Dilla’s music, Untitled/Fantastic is the key. Here it is, the last offering from the three DVD set. To see the rest, you’ll have to purchase them HERE (which is a must for any music lover and well worth the cash).

Today is the 4th anniversary of Dilla’s untimely passing. At Mochilla, they’ve spent the past year working on A Suite for Ma Dukes. Until now they only released videos of entirely instrumental pieces, but today – in homage to the man responsible for all this – they have released the first vocal performance from SFMD. Detroit singer Dwele sang the classic “Angel” that night without rehearsal, but with Miguel Atwood-Furguson‘s beautiful arrangements. Shout out to V-Tech, B+ and J.Kim.
In 2009, VTech and Mochilla put on a 3 part event series entitled “Timeless,” showcasing The Suite for Ma Dukes orchestra, Mulatu Astatke, and Arthur Verocai, and March 2010, they will be releasing a limited edition box set DVD of each event, w/ extra behind the scenes footage, poster, exclusive music, full liner notes, etc. Although the Suite for Ma Dukes event maybe most relevant and of interest, w/ it’s features from Posdnuos (De La Soul), Dwele, Bilal, Talib Kweli, Common, Karriem Riggins, and many others, all 3 events help create a bridge between producer/arrangers of yesteryear to the modern day hip hop producer.
The full press release is below, and today, I’m happy to share an exclusive video and audio track from the Suite for Ma Dukes event, mixed and mastered by legendary Grammy award-winning producer/mixer Bob Power, best known for his work with De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, D’Angelo, Badu, and many more. Also, this is the first time folks can see the artwork and packaging for the box set DVD.
Enjoy Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and the Suite for Ma Dukes orchestra in their version of “Take Notice” from J Dilla’s highly acclaimed Ruff Draft EP. Thank to JKim..

Between August 2008 to August 2009, Mochilla and VTech brought you an exceptional array of musical events that pushed the boundaries of today’s music. Ethopian jazz, Colombian Funk, Brasilian Folk, Jazz, fusion and Hip-Hop – where elders met with youth, where every idea is good, where mistakes are just part of the process and where the audience is the judge.
In “Hear the World,” Eric Coleman (Mochilla), mixes the very best musical moments of the year into one completely exclusive mix CD taken from the recordings made.
Features exclusive music from the Suite for Ma Dukes Orchestra, Exile, Madlib’s Jackson Conti project, Karriem Riggins, Mulatu, Arthur Verocai, Azymuth, Quantic, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and more. For more information visit VTECH.

Build An Ark, the Los Angeles-based community of singers, and musicians, release their third album ‘Love’ – and their hearts just keep getting bigger.
Build An Ark return with their third album ‘Love’, and their growth – both in sound and players – shows no signs of stopping. This record is their meditation on love – its varying forms and moods, its ecstatic and soothing powers. Build An Ark, under the production of Carlos Niño, have made an album which flows with a real range of volume and density, with arrangements and configurations contrasting against each other. The group has still kept their organic sound while adding several more layers, and charting a distinct progression from their previous two albums.
While Build An Ark is all about the collective expression, there are some notable players, including Impulse! violinist Michael White, singers Mia Doi Todd and Diana Moriera, Tribe co-founder Phil Ranelin, poet Kamau Daaood, spiritual baritone Dwight Trible (The Life Force Trio), and tireless arranger Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, all under the guidance of production standard-bearer Carlos Niño. The sound of ‘Love’ is the sound of a family at one with the universe – and it comes straight from the heart. Jan. 18th, Build an Ark will be playing at the Paradiso in Amsterdam for a One off show. After this they will travel to London to play at the Redbull Broadcast night together with IG Culture. Kindred Spirits.
