Terrace Martin is a producer/saxophonist/songwriter has been playing drums and piano since he was toddler. Later at the age of 13 he fell in love with the alto sax and that’s that. It has been Terrace Martin’s love for the alto sax that has catapulted his career into a world beyond imagination. He has worked with people like Diddy, Raphael Saadiq and Charlie Wilson. Even more noteworthy might be legends like Art Farmer, Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder.
Mr. Martin also caught the attention of Hip Hop veteran Snoop Dogg and went on to become his production partner. On Terrace’s new release, “The EP – Volume 2: Lover Edition”,Snoop even pops around to do some guest vocals. Also dope to see Frank Nitt get down on “Go Girl” together with Problem. Did I mention this is a FREE DOWNLOAD? Well it is so enjoy and spread the word to you and yours.

Past Monday marked the 10th anniversary of D’Angelo’s classic “Voodoo” album. After 10 years of silence, apart from an occasional featuring here and there, one can only wonder if we’ll ever hear a full length D’Angelo album again. And while various sources reported that a lot of new material had been recorded, we hadn’t heard anything other than ?uestlove’s leak of “Really Love” a few years back. However, an unmastered version of a track called “1000 Deaths” popped up a couple of days ago. This track has been referred to as a “psychedelic-soul head trip” by ?uestlove in interviews throughout the years. Engineer & producer Russ Elevado, who worked with D’Angelo on a lot of his new material, also spoke briefly about the track in his classic Q&A’s on the Gearslutz.com forums:
the song you’re speaking of is actually called “1000 deaths”. and i don’t hear the earth, wind, fire influence. it’s more like a heavy rock/funk vibe. it would be hard for me to rate as it’s every bit of a good D’angelo song than any of his others but it’s also different. there’s some really nice guitar work from him on that song also.

Earlier this month Jimetta Rose released her “The Barber’s Daughter”. Kinda late, but fashionably we bring this soothing soul album to your attention. You might know Jimetta from her work on Georgia Anne Muldrow’s album and more recent from her feature on Shafiq Husayn’s “Lost & Found” with Bilal on there as well. Get your copy at her Bandcamp after you’ve sampled some audible snacks below. First of all “Glory Us” which was produced by her drummer Ramon “Monchis” Rios and secondly “Sweet Necessity” produced by J.Bizness & Bombay.

Thank god we can end this year on a soulful note with Jesse Boykins‘ new “Itis” video. If we were to complain about something it would be the lack of high quality Soul! We honestly pray to god, that 2010 will be a year full of Soulful music…pray with us. This video was directed by Atif Ateeq and is off “The Beauty Created” album (which you all should have bought by now).
Flwrpt is at it again. This time bringing us a very entertaining “Autumn” mix. If you haven’t been checking out their blog filled with posts about original/sample music, some good ol’ funk and soul and a critical look at the cover art as well. To top it off they also bless the Internet with nice mixes like this one. Mixing deep house, nu-soul, r&b, and electronic music into one sound, hopefully you all can feel it! Cover art + mixed by Darien Victor Birks of Flwrpt. Tracklist after the drop…as usual.

When is it gonna drop? Crate…where is that joint? Well I got news for you…it’s finally here. Full Crate & Mar kept us in the dark with this one, but “Flirtwitu” is a fact. They hooked up Versis to lace the track and I must say this is the most mature track they’ve made up yet. I love the way Mar brings back the “She Was Fly” and “Aftersexin’” lyrics and those soothing harmonies and caressing bass kicks are the bizness.
Now everybody knows I’m an out-and-out critic, but when the guys played this on a lazy sunday afternoon a while back I was sold. One of Crate’s best productions thus far and Mar is steadily growing up to be a terrific soul singer. When I heard Versis was going to be on this as well, I thought it might be an overkill, but boy was I wrong. He actually finishes the track with finesse and this young cat will most surely be dropping some killer verses in the next few years to come. Artwork was done by Brian Elstak and Moovmnt is hosting it…HERE.

It’s been a long time coming and finally its here. Our close buddy Full Crate (half of the Mixing Monthly crew) teamed up with this fresh vocalist Mar and whipped up a lovely feelgood track called She Was Fly. It’s the perfect early-in-the-morning track. Here’s what Crate had to say about it: “Last month I Produced a song called ‘She Was Fly’, I asked Mar to do some vocals. The song needed a video, so we shot one. The cover was done by Brian Elstak (picture by Tim ‘Klips’ Pen)”.
Nothing but love for both guys and keep your ears open for more soulful candy, cuz their upcoming joint is off the chain! We’ll be posting it soon…Aftersexin’.
