Onra asked us to post this on our website, because he is looking for cover art for his upcoming “Chinoiseries Pt. 2″. He decided to hold a contest and kinda ‘pre-chopped’ some images if you will. See this as him handing you some relevant samples and asking you to chop it up into some music. Now I know there are some graphic designers out there that will love this idea of ’samples’ being chosen for them to work with and I think it’s a good idea to get on the same page. For all you graphic designers that would like to give it a try, HERE is the download link to the zip file containing everything you need.
Now the assignment is simple. Onra is asking you guys to design front and back covers for vinyl. Including the circles on the vinyl (4 of them, as it’s a double vinyl release). The winner wins a few records and CD’s from Onra’s discography…authographed if needed plus a free T-shirt. Since the record is going to be out late 2011, your deadline is October 31st.
Pt. 2 sounds a lot like the first Chinoiseries, but perhaps a bit more tragic, raw and dramatic. You understand Onra not sharing the music with you guys. I’d like to end this post with some hotness Onra dropped via Soundcloud recently and a few indications Onra left for the designers.

When I first heard Onra’s Funk-inspired 12″ on Allcity Records I thought whut?! But now that I’ve heard the entire album, I’m like ‘oh that’s what’s up’. It all comes together on the album and once again OlivierDaySoul blows my mind on “My Mind Is Gone”. This guy is the future and we’ll be hearing more in the near future I hope. On “The One”T3 from Slum Village drops some funky rhymes and Walter Mecca (France) does it “To The Beat”. Really nice to hear more producers getting influenced by that eighties boogie funk. Get ready to spend some money, because this is a must BUY!

Walter Mecca aka “the VHS king”, pushes back the limits and innovate once again with his new album “Tonnerre” (thunder). Spaced out samples, vintage synths and funky talkbox are the main ingredients to this project. This exclusive package includes videos on a vhs tape and music on a Tonnerre usb key. Onra just dropped a brand new double A sided 12″ on Allcity Records. Nev was going nuts about the “High Hopes” remake featuring Reggie B, but seeing the original is a classic I chose to stream another joint. The entire release seems to be a homage to the eighties Boogie/Funk genre, but with a Hip Hop twist. The album drops in April and has the same name as the 12″. Let us know what you think of this funky release and don’t forget to BUY it if you like what you hear.

For over a decade the Red Bull Music Academy has given young, upcoming artists a place to develop themselves. Not only do they learn, but a very important part of the RBMA is creating and exposing! What better way to do this than to record a compilation album together with fellow participants as well as more established musicians and sometimes even legends.
Under the name ‘Various Assets’ this has been done several times. These CD’s were never released to the general public and contain unreleased material as well as music that has been released like Flying Lotus his “Tea Leaf Dancers” featuring Andreya Triana. These compilation CD’s were recorded all over the world from Melbourne to Seattle and from Toronto to Barcelona.
We from Moovmnt had never actually heard all of this material and thought it would be a good idea to select our favourites and release it as a mix. Some music you might have heard on our website already, but I can assure you that some of this material has been waiting, hidden in the dust, to come out of your speakers and give you a taste of the wonderful things that are going on at the Red Bull Music Academy.
We tried to keep the mix close to our personal taste and yet it contains a divers array of different kinds of music. Enjoy some tasteful hip hop, nu-soul, future funk, soulful house, electronic music with a dash of dubstep to go out with a bang. Now we’re off to London to soak up some of that RBMA energy, so enjoy this one. We’ll be keeping you updated about what goes on behind the scenes at the Academy, so tune in for some exclusive footage, music, etc.
