Next year two of Europe’s most respected selectors, Lefto and Simbad, will show you what it’s all about…music wise. They were asked by Brownswood to make a selection of future music for the brand new new series of compilations called Worldwide Family. Now when you think of heavy Beats, you might think of L.A. and not automatically of Japan. But do not be mistaken! Sauce81, RLP and Kez YM thought the time was ripe for up and coming artists/producers/musicians based in Japan to get some worldwide recognition. Under the name of “Cosmopolyphonic” they are releasing a compilation album dedicated to the next generation beat makers from Japan as well as worldwide. It contains music from several RBMA alumni and Bass Camp people such as TOKiMONSTA, Pursuit Grooves, RLP, Kez YM,Daisuke Tanabe, Onra, mfp, Sarah Linhares, May Roosevelt, MONKEY_sequence.19, Super Smoky Soul, Pepin, Kan Sano and many more. Onra asked us to post this on our website, because he is looking for cover art for his upcoming “Chinoiseries Pt. 2″. He decided to hold a contest and kinda ‘pre-chopped’ some images if you will. See this as him handing you some relevant samples and asking you to chop it up into some music. Now I know there are some graphic designers out there that will love this idea of ‘samples’ being chosen for them to work with and I think it’s a good idea to get on the same page. For all you graphic designers that would like to give it a try, HERE is the download link to the zip file containing everything you need.
Now the assignment is simple. Onra is asking you guys to design front and back covers for vinyl. Including the circles on the vinyl (4 of them, as it’s a double vinyl release). The winner wins a few records and CD’s from Onra’s discography…authographed if needed plus a free T-shirt. Since the record is going to be out late 2011, your deadline is October 31st.
Pt. 2 sounds a lot like the first Chinoiseries, but perhaps a bit more tragic, raw and dramatic. You understand Onra not sharing the music with you guys. I’d like to end this post with some hotness Onra dropped via Soundcloud recently and a few indications Onra left for the designers.

When I first heard Onra‘s Funk-inspired 12″ on Allcity Records I thought whut?! But now that I’ve heard the entire album, I’m like ‘oh that’s what’s up’. It all comes together on the album and once again OlivierDaySoul blows my mind on “My Mind Is Gone”. This guy is the future and we’ll be hearing more in the near future I hope. On “The One” T3 from Slum Village drops some funky rhymes and Walter Mecca (France) does it “To The Beat”. Really nice to hear more producers getting influenced by that eighties boogie funk. Get ready to spend some money, because this is a must BUY!

Onra just dropped a brand new double A sided 12″ on Allcity Records. Nev was going nuts about the “High Hopes” remake featuring Reggie B, but seeing the original is a classic I chose to stream another joint. The entire release seems to be a homage to the eighties Boogie/Funk genre, but with a Hip Hop twist. The album drops in April and has the same name as the 12″. Let us know what you think of this funky release and don’t forget to BUY it if you like what you hear.
