A while ago we met up with Zed “Maddslinky” Bias at the Sound Gallery in Amsterdam. He was so kind to do a one hour mix for our Moovmnt Radio show filled with exclusives and sneak previews. Last month we met up with Soulquarian Bilal after his show in Amsterdam (Paradiso) and behold the result. Our camera man Joao couldn’t make it, so me and Deluge decided to shoot the video ourselves on his Canon 550D. Big thank you for editing it though and I think it came out pretty nice, because Bilal goes pretty deep. As you might know his album “Airtight’s Revenge” (Plug Research) is coming out in a month and today his first single “Restart” drops. UK massive in the house. This Friday our big buddy TY and RBMA-ninja Kidkanevil are going to perform in the upstairs room of Amsterdam’s Paradiso. We were asked to host the evening and of course we said yes. MOOVMNT at PARADISO starts of with TY who’ll be performing a lot of new material of his brand new “Special Kind of Fool” album. To bring the transition from Hip Hop to more electronic styles of music, the little homie Jameszoo is going to play some tunes. I heard through the grapevine that he’s releasing his debut album later this year, but more info on that soon. To end the evening Kidkanevil is going to do a Live set with an whole array of different styles of electronic music. Keywords are wonky, dubby and who knows what else he’s got in store. Tonight we bring that SOUL flava to the MiNiBAR and to help us with this, we invited local legend DJ Manga. This cat has been spinning for decades and is older than time itself (just kidding). Seriously though. Manga is well known here in Amsterdam for his ‘Legends’ party that he’s been doing together with Supreme Cuisine in the Paradiso for some time now. We’d like to invite everyone in the 020 area to drop by and have a drink with us. If you like that soulful music don’t be shy…we’ll see you tonight! Oh before I forget. We told you last week that Stones Throw‘s ambassador of Boogie Funk is back in Amsterdam this Friday. Before the clock strikes midnight L.A.’s very own Dãm-Funk will be at the MiNiBAR to give ya’ll a taste of that Funk. An intimate signing session will take place, so bring your vinyl or CD if you want an autograph. Stick around for a while and hear Dãm-Funk play a couple of records to get you in the mood. Don’t expect a whole set, because he’s saving that for Boogie Bash at the Paradiso later that night. If you were wondering what you were doing Friday night after 1pm…now you know. Earlier this year we met up with L.A.’s finest J*DaVeY and we had a blast. We asked them some questions about their performances, turn-ons and turn-offs, what they spend their cash on, the whole Cali movement, Dack Janiels and more. While we eagerly await material from J*DaVeY’s upcoming full-length album, the Los-Angeles based new wave-electro-sex-punk duo are trying their best to tease us mercilessly. This time around, J*DaVey bring the sultry track “Slooow” from their double EP Beauty in Distortion / Land of the Lost, to life through a video that subtly melts into our speakers and our eardrums. Set behind a quivering red and black backdrop that oozes, bends, and spreads across the screen, the video takes us into an abstract dream-like world that lets us see what J*DaVeY’s understated and suggestive bleeps and coos look like in the visual realm. The video, directed by up and comer Tomas Whitmore, has already premiered at #8 on BET JAMS and is up for MTVU’s The Freshman Contest. J*DaVeY babies can now vote for “Slooow” as many times as they want. If “Slooow” beats out the competitors, the video will be placed in permanent rotation on MTV.
