ZO SUNSTORM

“SunStorm” is the latest album from Detroit-area born, DC-area based producer/multi-instrumentalist who goes by the name of Zo! Best known for his 2008 collaboration with Phonte on the cult classic “Zo and Tigallo Love the 80’s” as well as his work on The Foreign Exchange’s Grammy-nominated LP, “Leave It All Behind”. This extensive 12-track album ranges from souldrenched music w/ the likes of Phonte to more complex arrangements similar to The Mizell Brothers or 4hero. Welcome into the depth of Zo! and just sit back and enjoy the ride.

So many lovely vocalists on here like Sy Smith, Lady Alma, Darien Brockington, Eric Roberson and Rapper Big Pooh of Little Brother. If there was a time to buy pure, honest beatiful music…the time is now! Money well spent if you ask me so go ahead and buy the album digitally via SunStorm or get the CD over HERE. [FE Music]

rbma_most_valuable_assets_400

For over a decade the Red Bull Music Academy has given young, upcoming artists a place to develop themselves. Not only do they learn, but a very important part of the RBMA is creating and exposing! What better way to do this than to record a compilation album together with fellow participants as well as more established musicians and sometimes even legends.

Under the name ‘Various Assets’ this has been done several times. These CD’s were never released to the general public and contain unreleased material as well as music that has been released like Flying Lotus his “Tea Leaf Dancers” featuring Andreya Triana. These compilation CD’s were recorded all over the world from Melbourne to Seattle and from Toronto to Barcelona.

We from Moovmnt had never actually heard all of this material and thought it would be a good idea to select our favourites and release it as a mix. Some music you might have heard on our website already, but I can assure you that some of this material has been waiting, hidden in the dust, to come out of your speakers and give you a taste of the wonderful things that are going on at the Red Bull Music Academy.

We tried to keep the mix close to our personal taste and yet it contains a divers array of different kinds of music. Enjoy some tasteful hip hop, nu-soul, future funk, soulful house, electronic music with a dash of dubstep to go out with a bang. Now we’re off to London to soak up some of that RBMA energy, so enjoy this one. We’ll be keeping you updated about what goes on behind the scenes at the Academy, so tune in for some exclusive footage, music, etc.

drake-my-new

While I was visiting our NY colleagues FWMJ’s Rappers I Know (online), I came across this joint by Drake called “My New”. It was produced by Nottz and originally Phonte and Von Pea were on it. This never came out and was actually supposed to be an album joint (pre Weezy). Enjoy this one…it’s bangin’.

stoney-jackson

In Search of Stoney Jackson is produced entirely by Madlib, longtime friend of Phil Da Agony and extended Strong Arm Steady family. The album’s conception owes a great deal to World Famous Beat Junkie, J.Rocc, who provided the trio with close to 200 of the Madlib the Beat Konducta’s tracks to choose from. Strong Arm Steady had previously rapped over Madlib productions on the Madlib and Talib Kweli Liberation album, but this full-length marks a long-desired collaboration between the four. It’s a hip-hop jam session, with the group acting as the rhythm section for an all-star cast of guest vocalists such as Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson, Evidence, Chase Infinite, and Phonte of Little Brother. (Stones Throw)

This will hit the streets January 26th and is already available as a digital release via the Stones Throw website!

One of the hardest working producers/musicians in hip-hop right now has to be Daru. Apart from drumming for Talib Kweli, Black Milk, Slum Village and others he also finds time to work on his own projects. He has released a handful of projects this year alone, one of which was the great “A Work In Progress” collaboration with AB. His latest project is his third sampler called “Spirit & Soul-Hop”, which features artists such as Muhsinah, Kissey Asplund and Monica Blaire. The best part? It’s a FREE download, so head over to Daru’s Bandcamp and get your copy!
