We’ve been using Mixcloud for almost a year now mainly thanks to their usability and handy widget. When they asked us to take part in their “Celebration of Curation” campaign, we felt honoured to be a part of it and so the whole team got together to put together a mix worthy of this celebration. In the playlist you’ll find some brand new, as well as classic, Electronic Beats, Hip Hop, Broken and even some Soulful House music. Earlier this year we had the chance to be a part of the Red Bull Music Academy, which took place in London this year. We tried to live the life of a participant and also brought our video camera along. You might come to the conclusion we are not very skilled videographers (yet), but nevertheless we wanted to share some of the footage we shot in London.
Today was marked in many agenda’s already, because it’s the official release date of the ‘RBMA Various Assets 2010′ compilation album. Good news for everyone! The Red Bull Music Academy is dropping the “Various Assets London 2010″ compilation album on July 19th. If you don’t know the deal yet, check out this previous post and educate yourself. We remember this year’s Academy as if it was yesterday and we’d like to give a big fat shout out to all the participants we met, hung out with and befriended. Can’t stress enough what a fantastic project this is and topping it off with a compilation album is the right way to do it.

UpMyAlley is dropping the third installment of their producer compilation series “Beatnicks Vol. 3″. This six-track EP contains music from Powell, O.Boogie, Desto, fLako & Berghem, Rez and ex RBMA participant Ki En Ra. The guys over at UpMyAlley hooked us up “Way Back” of Ki En Ra’s “City of Moment” EP available on OneSense Music. The Estonian teams up with SelfSays on this one (who can make something out of nothing). Enjoy and give Beatnicks Vol. 3 a try…it got some heat on it. Our first impression of Ryan was that he was one hell of a friendly RBMA participant and this impression got confirmed just now when we asked about his new “Titan” EP. Mr. Illum Sphere sent it over in mear minutes and we gave it a quick listen. I definitely hear a bit more House influences when I compare this release to his previous two EP’s on Fat City. Impressive nevertheless and I bet Martyn was thinking the same thing when he decided to bring this out on his 3024 label. This 3-track release on sees him moving into slightly more dance-oriented waters yet keeping it wonkey. I really like “Technopolis” is because of it’s tumbling piano keys hoisted aloft on a pulsing techno beat and misty-eyed chords. To listen to the whole thing…head on over to to purchase the Titan EP.

Vienna’s collective JSBL consists out of Clemens Bacher, Willi Rosner, The Clonious and Dorian Concept. The latter two both ex-participants of the Red Bull Music Academy and how fitting Dorian remixes his own band’s song. Hypnosizing chords and tantalizing sounds are the main ingredients for this SICK ass joint called “The Flu”. Watch out for their “Twice Upon Two Times” Remixed EP out June 7th on Affine. [via RBMA]

Alright peeps…here’s a brand new joint from Croydon’s sexy blonde GoldieLocks. The story behind it goes as following. Chris Ofili has an exhibition on now at the Tate Britain and Sarah and a bunch of other musicians (Mala, Cooly G, Tinie Tempah and more) were asked to respond to one of his pieces with their own work – hers was “3rd Eye Vision”.

You might gave heard about Africa HiTech on the low or heard some exclusives on Benji B’s Deviation. I’ve always loved “Too Late” which was on the RBMA “Various Assets” CD and last year Warp released a compilation (2010 from Warp Records) with “Blen” on it. Both were probably the fruit of a remarkable cooperation between Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek at the Red Bull Music Academy 2007 in Toronto….thus forming Africa HiTech. This contemporary mix of Dubstep and Soultronica has people going nuts and of course we’ve been pumping this for a minute. I can easily say this is one of the most anticipated releases coming out this year.
Their first official 12″ is a fact and will be dropping next week on Warp. It contains a “Blen”, plus a remix and a brand new track called “The Sound of Tomorrow”. It’s already available on vinyl at Rush Hour for the early birds with a craving for vinyl instead of worms. Expect their EP to drop soon as well, but in the meantime lets focus on the 12″ and let it take you there.
